Jenna Bush Hager is opening up about a memorable and surprisingly chaotic moment from the night before her 2008 wedding to husband Henry Hager — and the story includes everything from a heartwarming twin-sister tradition to a last-minute weather emergency that nearly disrupted the big day.

During the Monday, June 1 episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, the TODAY host delighted viewers with an intimate behind-the-scenes story from the evening before she walked down the aisle. While reflecting on wedding memories, Jenna revealed a touching detail about spending the night before her wedding with her twin sister, Barbara Bush Pierce — a tradition that instantly melted hearts.

The 44-year-old television personality, who married Henry Hager in a picturesque outdoor ceremony at her family’s Texas ranch in 2008, explained that severe weather unexpectedly interrupted what had been a sentimental night.

“There was really bad weather the night before,” Jenna recalled during the show. “My mom woke Barbara and me up — we slept together because we’re twins.”

The revelation immediately caught the attention of co-host Sheinelle Jones, who couldn’t hide her delight at the sweet sibling moment.

“Wait, the night before your wedding you slept with your sister?” Sheinelle asked with a smile. “Awww, that is the sweetest thing!”

For Jenna, however, the memory also came with a hilarious and slightly awkward twist involving her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush.

According to Jenna, Laura entered the room and made a comment that instantly left both sisters feeling embarrassed.

“She was like, ‘We need to change the sheets!’” Jenna joked while laughing. “And Barbara was like, ‘Gross, Mom! This isn’t The Other Boleyn Girl!’”

The playful exchange referenced the 2008 historical drama The Other Boleyn Girl, centered around King Henry VIII and sisters Anne and Mary Boleyn, making the moment even more amusing for the studio audience.

While the joke drew laughter, Jenna quickly explained that her mother had another, far more urgent reason for waking the sisters in the middle of the night.

As it turned out, dangerous weather had struck the wedding setup just hours before the ceremony.

“My mom was like, ‘Girls, get out of bed! A tornado came and hit the tent, but everything’s fine!’” Jenna recalled.

The unexpected announcement understandably left Jenna and Barbara confused — especially given Laura Bush’s famously calm demeanor.

“We were like…” Jenna laughed, imitating her younger self in disbelief. “‘Huh?’ She’s a very calm lady, but we were shocked.”

The frightening weather scare could have turned into a wedding disaster. With an outdoor ceremony planned at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas, severe weather posed a genuine threat to months of preparation.

Still, despite the overnight tornado concerns and damaged wedding tent, the ceremony ultimately went ahead without major issues.

Jenna and Henry exchanged vows in a romantic outdoor celebration surrounded by close family and friends. The wedding, held at the Bush family ranch, became one of the most memorable moments for the former first daughter, marking the beginning of what would become a lasting marriage and growing family.

More than 15 years later, Jenna and Henry remain happily married and continue building their lives together. The couple now share three children — daughters Mila, 13, and Poppy, 10, as well as their youngest child, son Hal, 6.

Jenna frequently speaks candidly about family life on television, often giving viewers funny and relatable glimpses into marriage, parenting, and life behind the scenes.

In fact, she recently had audiences laughing after joking about what she sees as an amusing physical resemblance between herself and Henry.
