Chapter 6

The sun broke through the stormy clouds,

casting a golden light across the hospital room.

I woke up feeling surprisingly rested,

the agonizing pain from yesterday completely gone.

Lucian was already awake,

standing by the window in a fresh,

tailored suit.

He looked like a king surveying his kingdom,

powerful and untouchable.

"Good morning,"

he said softly,

turning to face me.

"How are my triplets doing today?"

I blushed at his possessive tone,

resting my hands on my large bump.

"They are quiet,"

I replied,

"I think they are resting too."

A team of nurses bustled into the room,

carrying trays of gourmet breakfast food.

There was fresh fruit,

warm croissants,

and imported teas.

"Eat,"

Lucian commanded gently,

pulling a table over my lap.

"You need your strength for the journey."

As I ate,

one of Lucian's security men stepped into the room,

holding a tablet.

"Sir,

Nathan Drake has released a statement to the press,"

the guard reported.

Lucian's jaw tightened.

"Read it."

The guard cleared his throat.

"He claims you have kidnapped his pregnant wife,

and he is filing an emergency injunction."

I dropped my fork,

my appetite vanishing instantly.

"He is trying to corner us,"

I panicked,

my heart rate spiking again.

Lucian walked over,

placing a steadying hand on my shoulder.

"Let him try,"

Lucian said,

pulling his own phone from his pocket.

He dialed a number,

putting it on speaker for me to hear.

"Get me the Chief Justice,"

Lucian demanded,

not even waiting for a greeting.

A few seconds later,

a nervous voice answered the line.

"Mr. Blackwood,

how can I help you today?"

"Nathan Drake is filing a frivolous injunction against me,"

Lucian stated flatly.

"I want it blocked,

and I want his legal team investigated for harassment."

"Of course, sir,"

the judge replied quickly,

eager to please the billionaire.

"I will handle it immediately."

Lucian hung up the phone,

tossing it onto the bed.

"Problem solved,"

he said,

looking at me with a satisfied smirk.

I could not help but laugh,

amazed by the sheer power this man wielded.

"You are terrifying,"

I admitted,

taking a bite of a strawberry.

"Only to those who threaten what is mine,"

he replied,

his eyes locking onto mine with intense heat.

I looked away,

my cheeks burning hot.
