Chapter 5 - The Boardroom Takeover, The Final Justice, And The New Moretti Empire

Three months after the explosive events of the engagement gala, the executive boardroom on the top floor of Moretti Tower was a gleaming fortress of glass, steel, and absolute corporate dominance.
The panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows offered a breathtaking, unobstructed view of the Chicago skyline, bathed in the crisp, golden sunlight of a bright autumn morning. Around the massive, custom-built oval mahogany table sat twelve of the city's most powerful senior executives, banking partners, and syndicate captains—all of them sitting silently, watching with bated breath.
At the head of the long table sat Dante Moretti, looking immaculate in a tailored charcoal bespoke suit.
And seated directly to his right—wearing a sharp, impeccably cut emerald-green executive pantsuit that commanded every single eye in the room—was Elena Moretti.
The transformation over the last ninety days had been nothing short of miraculous. Margaret Moretti had successfully checked out of St. Jude’s Hospital two weeks prior, moving into a secure, sunlit penthouse estate overlooking Lake Michigan, completely free of oxygen tanks and financial worries.
As for the ruins of the Whitmore family empire? Richard Whitmore was currently sitting in a federal penitentiary awaiting trial for multiple counts of corporate fraud and racketeering, while Vanessa Whitmore had fled the country in absolute disgrace, her social standing reduced to ash and gossip columns.
“...and therefore, based on our Q3 audit reports,” Elena announced clearly, her voice echoing with absolute poise and razor-sharp authority across the silent boardroom, “we are immediately reallocating forty million dollars from our legacy security budget into our legitimate international shipping and philanthropic foundation networks.”
She paused, looking down at the detailed financial spreadsheets resting before her, then raised her sharp gaze to lock onto the senior vice president of operations, a nervous-looking man named Gregory Vance who had once tried to dismiss her credentials on her very first day in the office.
“Are there any objections to the restructuring plan, Mr. Vance?” Elena asked smoothly, a faint, dangerous smile playing on her lips.
Gregory Vance swallowed hard, breaking out into a cold sweat. He quickly shook his head, pressing his palms flat against the table. “N-no objections at all, Miss Moretti. The... the numbers are flawless.”
“Good,” Elena said, closing her leather portfolio with a soft, satisfying click. “Because if anyone here believes they can mismanage Moretti assets the way previous administrations attempted to do... they are welcome to join the federal inmates currently residing downtown.”
A ripple of nervous agreement swept through the table.
Dante leaned back slightly in his executive leather chair, turning his head to look at his cousin with an expression of profound, unadulterated pride. The ruthless mafia boss who had once ruled through fear and isolation had finally found his true equal.
When the meeting was formally adjourned ten minutes later, the executives scrambled out of the boardroom in record time, leaving Dante and Elena alone in the expansive, sunlit space.
Dante stood up slowly, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling windows and staring out at the sprawling city below. He slipped his hands into his trouser pockets, a rare, genuine smile touching the corners of his mouth.
“You know,” Dante murmured, his deep voice carrying a quiet warmth, “if someone had told me six months ago that my most brilliant corporate executive and fiercest ally would walk into my mansion wearing a maid’s uniform... I would have had them thrown out of a window.”
Elena walked over to stand beside him, resting her hands lightly against the cool glass of the window, looking out over the glittering skyline.
“And if someone had told me six months ago that I’d be firing corrupt billionaires in a custom emerald suit while partnered with the most feared man in Chicago...” Elena laughed softly, shaking her head. “I would have called an ambulance for them.”
Dante turned his head, his slate-grey eyes softening as he looked down at her. “You saved my empire, Elena. More than that... you saved my soul from the darkness my father left behind.”
“We saved each other, Dante,” Elena corrected gently, turning to meet his gaze with absolute confidence.
She lifted her right hand, letting the heavy diamond-and-platinum Moretti family signet ring she now wore catch the brilliant morning sunlight, flashing a bright, unyielding beam across the room.

Down on the busy streets of Chicago, the old world of corruption, backstabbing, and hidden agendas was dead and buried beneath the concrete. Up here in the sunlight, the new Moretti empire was standing tall, unbreakable, and reigning supreme.
And nobody would ever, ever dare look down on a Moretti again.
