CHAPTER 4 – “AFTER THE FALL”

By noon, he had lost the award.

By evening, two board positions were suspended.

By the next morning, his hospital committee role was under review.

It was not punishment.

It was containment.

Reputation is fragile only when exposed.

And I had exposed it cleanly.

I didn’t celebrate.

I didn’t call anyone.

I stayed home.

Because I was waiting.

Not for apology.

For reaction.

It came on the third night.

Not from him.

From a letter.

Delivered in a plain envelope.

No return address.

Inside was a single page.

And a warning.

You do not understand what you disrupted.

Step away before your father’s name becomes part of this.

My hand went cold reading it.

My father had been dead for seven years.

Or so I thought.

That was the first time fear entered the story.

Not because of Russell.

May you like

But because of what I had not known existed before him.

And what my exposure had just awakened.
