Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Execution and the Freezing of the Golden Boy’s Empire

By the following morning, the financial reality of Damon’s double life had begun to disintegrate with terrifying speed.

Damon left the house early, claiming he had an emergency breakfast meeting with senior partners regarding a major corporate acquisition. In reality, he was likely meeting Claire to coordinate their alibis and ensure their secret affair remained buried beneath a mountain of lies.

I sat at the kitchen island, sipping herbal tea, watching the live feeds from our home security network on my tablet. I watched him kiss my cheek before walking out the door—the same lips that had whispered sweet nothingness to my best friend while she hid behind my coats. It was Oscar-worthy acting.

Hours later, the ultimate reckoning struck in the heart of the financial district.

On the forty-second floor of the downtown corporate tower where Damon worked as a junior partner, the quarterly executive review meeting was reaching its climax.

Damon sat near the head of the polished glass conference table, looking sharp in his tailored charcoal suit, flashing his trademark charming smile as he presented his latest investment portfolio projections to the senior board members.

"As you can see, gentlemen," Damon spoke with confident authority, adjusting his gold-rimmed watch, "our projected returns for this quarter exceed industry standards by at least fourteen percent. With the upcoming merger with Vanguard Global finalizing next week, our firm’s market dominance will be absolute."

At the far end of the table, the heavy mahogany doors swung open.

Jonathan Vance walked into the boardroom, flanked by two corporate compliance officers carrying thick leather-bound audit binders.

Damon’s confident smile faltered for a fraction of a second. He stood up politely, extending a hand. "Mr. Vance! I didn't realize Vanguard’s managing director would be sitting in on our internal review today. We are honored—"

Jonathan didn't take Damon’s outstretched hand. Instead, he stopped ten feet away, his expression carved from unrelenting granite.

"Save the corporate pleasantries, Mr. Moretti," Jonathan’s deep voice echoed across the silent boardroom, cutting through the air like a butcher's knife. "We are not here to discuss your investment projections. We are here to execute an immediate operational freeze and corporate asset seizure against your entire personal and professional portfolio."

The entire boardroom erupted into immediate, stunned uproar. Senior partners stood up from their chairs, shouting over one another in sheer panic.

"Asset seizure?! Are you out of your mind, Vance?!" the managing partner roared, slamming his hands onto the table. "Mr. Moretti’s portfolio has been vetted by our internal compliance team for three years! On what legal grounds are you locking down his accounts?"

Jonathan calmly opened his leather folder, sliding a single document across the polished glass table right in front of Damon’s pale, trembling hands.

"On the grounds of severe corporate malfeasance, embezzlement of subsidiary funds, and breach of fiduciary trust," Jonathan recited coldly, his eyes locking onto Damon’s wide, terrified pupils. "Furthermore, Vanguard Global’s primary controlling shares are underwritten by a blind family trust. A trust founded by industrialist Arthur Sterling—whose sole surviving heir, primary trustee, and legal majority shareholder is none other than your wife, Emily Sterling-Moretti."

The room plunged into an instantaneous, suffocating silence so heavy you could hear the digital clock ticking on the wall.

Damon staggered backward, his knees buckling slightly as he caught himself against the edge of the glass table. "That... that’s impossible..." he choked out, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak. "Emily doesn't... she’s just a homemaker, she doesn't own Vanguard..."

"You married into a dynasty, Mr. Moretti, while treating your wife like an ignorant accessory," Jonathan stated, his voice dripping with contempt. "Every credit card, every offshore account, every luxury car, and every share you claim to own has been frozen effective immediately. You are officially insolvent."

Before Damon could form another coherent word, the conference room doors opened once more. Two uniformed local police officers walked in, holding a pair of gleaming steel handcuffs.

"Damon Moretti," the lead officer announced, stepping forward. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, and financial conspiracy."

As the cold metal cuffs snapped tightly around his wrists, his expensive suit rumpled, and his carefully constructed house of cards collapsed into dust, Damon stared blankly into space, realizing too late that the woman he had underestimated was the very person holding the key to his entire existence.
