Chapter 3 - Betrayal Within the Inner Circle as the Mafia Boss Faces Mutiny and a Mysterious InvitationBy the third day, the rot inside the Moretti syndicate had reached the bone.

In the underground subterranean vault beneath the private social club where Alessandro usually held his council meetings, the atmosphere was thick with cigar smoke and palpable panic. Gone was the swagger and false bravado of the capos and underbosses. In their place were sweating brows, nervous glances, and bitter murmurs of dissent.
Marco slammed his fist onto the metal table. "This is insane! Half our payroll bounced this morning! My men are threatening to walk unless they get paid in cash, and our offshore accounts in the Caymans are locked tight by an international court order!"
Uncle Vincent, the oldest and most cunning of the veteran advisers, slowly swirled a glass of scotch, his rheumy eyes fixed on Alessandro at the head of the table. "I warned you, Alessandro. You let your arrogance blind you to the foundation of this family. You thought Sarah was a quiet flower you could prune and replace whenever your ego demanded a fresh scent. You didn't realize she was the soil keeping us all planted."
Alessandro sat motionless in the shadows, his dark suit immaculate, his face carved from cold granite. The amber glow of a desk lamp caught the hard line of his jaw. He had spent the last forty-eight hours trying every backchannel, calling in every favor from politicians, judges, and underworld contacts across three continents. Every single door had been slammed shut in his face. Vanguard Global Holdings had systematically dismantled his influence with surgical, bloodless precision.
"The assets are frozen, not dissolved," Alessandro spoke, his voice low, steady, and dangerously calm. "There is always a way back in. A corporate structure requires a human signature to maintain receivership. Find out where she is hiding."
"We don't need to find her, Boss," one of the junior capos muttered, sliding a heavy silver envelope across the table. "It was just delivered to the front gate by a courier with diplomatic immunity."
Alessandro’s eyes locked onto the envelope. Emblazoned across the thick, cream-colored card was a wax seal he knew intimately—the crest of the Vanguard family, stamped in deep crimson.
He picked it up, tearing the heavy paper open. Inside was a single, elegant card written in familiar, flowing handwriting:
To Alessandro Moretti,
If you wish to discuss the liquidation of your assets, the future of your syndicate, and the key you left behind... come to the Grand Meridian Hotel penthouse tonight at midnight. Come alone.
— S.
The room fell deathly silent. Marco swallowed hard. "Boss, it’s a trap. She’s working with federal prosecutors or rival syndicates. If you walk into that penthouse alone at midnight, you might never walk out."
Alessandro stood up slowly, towering over the table. The raw, primal magnetism that made him a feared leader surged back into his veins. He picked up his tailored black overcoat, draping it over his broad shoulders.
"If she wanted me dead, Marco, I’d already be sleeping with the fishes," Alessandro said coldly, buttoning his jacket. "She doesn't want my blood. She wants me to crawl."

"And Valeria?" Uncle Vincent asked quietly. "What do we tell her about the estate?"
Alessandro paused at the heavy iron door of the vault, his dark eyes flashing with a fierce, possessive resolve. "Tell her to pack her bags. Because the only queen of my house is walking back into my life tonight, or I’m burning this entire empire down to win her back."
