Chapter 4

CHAPTER 4 — The Bloodline Ledger
The Aranda Corporate Headquarters in Dallas was a monument of glass and steel.
At exactly 11:55 a.m., the executive boardroom on the 40th floor was packed.
Twelve board members sat around a massive mahogany table.
They were anxious. Sweating in their expensive suits.
At the head of the table, an empty chair waited for the CEO.
But Renata was present.
She had not flown to the Cayman Islands. That was a lie to misdirect Santiago.
She was standing at the front of the room, wearing a sharp white suit, looking like the savior of the company.
"Gentlemen," Renata announced, her voice echoing perfectly off the glass walls.
"We are facing a crisis of unprecedented proportions."
"My brother, Santiago, has suffered a complete psychological breakdown."
"He has barricaded himself in the Scottsdale estate."
"He has fallen victim to a sophisticated con artist—a servant who has convinced him she is our deceased sister."
Murmurs of shock and concern rippled through the board.
"This delusion threatens the very foundation of Aranda Enterprises," Renata continued, pacing gracefully.
"Santiago is actively freezing operational accounts to funnel millions to this woman."
"I have initiated emergency protocols to protect our assets, but we must act permanently."
"I am calling for an immediate vote of no confidence."
"I move to strip Santiago Aranda of his CEO title, effective immediately."
The chairman of the board, an older man with silver hair, cleared his throat.
"Renata, these are severe allegations. Do you have proof of his incompetence?"
"I have the sworn testimony of our legal counsel," Renata lied smoothly.
"I have the security logs. The man has lost his mind."
"We must vote now, before he destroys the legacy our father built."
The chairman sighed heavily. He raised his pen to sign the resolution.
"All those in favor of removing Santiago Aranda—"
The heavy double doors of the boardroom exploded open.
The sound was like a gunshot.
Two of Renata’s private security guards were thrown backward into the room, sprawling across the carpet.
Santiago stepped through the doorway.
He was not alone.
Six heavily armed federal agents flanked him, wearing dark windbreakers with FBI printed in bold yellow letters.
And walking right beside Santiago, holding her head high, was Marisol.
The boardroom fell into a stunned, breathless silence.
Renata froze. Her white suit suddenly looked like a surrender flag.
"Santiago," Renata gasped, her voice losing all its power. "What is the meaning of this?"
Santiago did not shout.
He didn't need to. He commanded the room with his presence.
He walked slowly to the head of the table.
He didn't look at Renata. He looked at the chairman.
"Put your pen down, Richard," Santiago commanded.
"There will be no vote today."
"Santiago, Renata claims you are funneling money to an imposter," the chairman stuttered.
Santiago dropped a thick stack of documents onto the mahogany table.
"Renata claims a lot of things," Santiago said smoothly.
He pointed to the stack.
"That is a certified, expedited DNA test, conducted at 4:00 a.m. this morning by an independent federal laboratory."
"It proves with 99.9% certainty that the woman standing next to me is Sofia Aranda."
"My sister. And the rightful heir to the Dallas estate."
Gasps erupted around the table.
Renata’s face turned the color of ash. She gripped the back of her chair to keep from collapsing.
"It's a forgery!" Renata shrieked, panic finally shattering her composure.
"He bought the lab! He's lying!"
"I don't need to lie," Santiago said, finally turning to look at his half-sister.
He pulled Doña Esperanza's leather-bound journal from his coat.
He tossed it onto the table. It slid and stopped exactly in front of Renata.
Renata looked down at the handwriting. She recognized her stepmother's elegant script immediately.
Her breath hitched.
"You thought you broke her mind," Santiago whispered, his voice dripping with venom.
"But you only broke her heart. Her mind was taking notes."
Santiago turned to the federal agents.
"Agent Miller, would you please inform the board what you found in the offshore accounts this morning?"
The lead FBI agent stepped forward.
"We have confirmed a massive, systematic embezzlement operation spanning two decades," the agent stated formally.
"Renata Aranda has illicitly funneled over four hundred million dollars from company pension funds and the Sofia Aranda trust into private shell corporations."
"We also have evidence of judicial bribery, wire fraud, and tax evasion."
The board members recoiled from Renata as if she were carrying the plague.
"No," Renata whispered, shaking her head. "No, this is my company. I built this."
She lunged toward the table, trying to grab the journal.
"You can't do this to me! I am the firstborn! I am the Aranda heir!"
The federal agents moved instantly.
They grabbed Renata's arms, twisting them behind her back with brutal efficiency.
The sound of metal handcuffs ratcheting closed echoed loudly in the quiet boardroom.
"Renata Aranda," the agent recited, "you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, racketeering, and embezzlement."
"You have the right to remain silent."
"I suggest you use it," Santiago added coldly.
Renata was dragged toward the doors.
She didn't scream anymore. She didn't fight.
She looked back at Marisol one last time.
She looked at the girl in the black silk dress. The girl who had survived the dust.
And in Marisol's dark, unforgiving eyes, Renata finally saw her own total destruction.

The doors closed behind her.
The monster was gone.
