Chapter 5 - A New Dawn and the Vows Beneath the ChandeliersThree months later, the rain had been replaced by crisp, golden autumn sunlight that streamed through the restored stained-glass windows of the Castellano estate ballroom.

The room looked entirely different than it had on that fateful night of the gala. The white lilies were gone, replaced by vibrant autumn foliage—deep reds, burnt oranges, and rich golds. There were no corrupt politicians, no fake brides, and no terrified society sycophants.

Instead, the room was filled with a small, intimate gathering of loyal staff members, trusted friends, and union representatives who had stood by Michael's memory and helped rebuild the foundation of an empire on absolute truth.

In the center of the room, standing beneath the very same crystal chandeliers that had witnessed the start of our journey, I wore a simple, elegant ivory dress that hugged my frame without pretension. Lily stood beside me as the flower girl, wearing a matching dress with little pastel flowers, scattering rose petals across the polished marble floor with immense concentration.

And standing right in front of me was Matteo.

He wore a tailored black tuxedo, but the rigid, untouchable armor he used to wear was entirely gone. When he looked at me, his dark eyes held a warmth, a tenderness, and a fierce devotion that took my breath away every single time.

"You know," Matteo whispered as the violinist near the terrace doors began to play a soft, familiar melody, "when your little girl pointed at that closet months ago, I thought it was just another messy complication in a life built on chaos."

I smiled, my hand resting comfortably in his strong, warm grip. "And instead?"

"Instead," Matteo said, leaning down to press a tender kiss against my forehead, "it was the best thing that ever happened to me. You brought truth back into this house, Elena. You brought my soul back."

The officiant—a retired federal judge who had overseen the corruption trials of Senator Sterling and Isabelle—smiled warmly and nodded toward us.

"Do you, Matteo Castellano, take Elena Vance to be your lawfully wedded wife, to stand beside her through every storm, to protect her and her daughter with your life and your honor?"

Matteo didn't hesitate for a single second. "I do."

"And do you, Elena Vance, take Matteo Castellano to be your lawfully wedded husband, to share in his triumphs, to heal his heart, and to build an unbreakable legacy together?"

I looked down at Lily, who beamed up at us with a gap-toothed grin, and then back into the deep, loving eyes of the man who had torn down a corrupt empire just to give us justice and a home.

"I do," I said, my voice steady, clear, and filled with absolute peace.

The applause that followed wasn't the loud, fake, polite clapping of high-society elites trying to buy favor. It was genuine, roaring, heartfelt laughter and cheering from the people who truly mattered—the people who knew the cost of the truth, and the beauty of a love earned through fire and redemption.

As Matteo pulled me into his arms and kissed me beneath the brilliant golden light of the chandeliers, I knew the past was finally behind us.

We had survived the lies, weathered the storm, and found our happily ever after right where we belonged.
