Chapter 4: The Unexpected Visitor
Three months after Christmas, spring arrived with warm sunshine and blooming flowers outside Evelyn's little house.
Life had become wonderfully ordinary.
Evelyn worked as a floral designer for a small family-owned shop.
Sophie was thriving in second grade.
The nightmares came less often.
One Saturday morning, a black sedan stopped outside the house.
Sophie peeked through the curtain.
"Mommy, someone is here."
A gray-haired woman stepped onto the porch carrying a leather folder.
"My name is Margaret Collins," she introduced herself. "I'm the executor of your grandmother's estate."
Evelyn frowned.
"My grandmother passed away years ago."
Margaret nodded gently.
"She left instructions that these documents be delivered only after the Whitmore family empire collapsed."
Inside the folder was a handwritten letter.
My dear Evelyn,
If you are reading this, then the truth has finally won.
I could never stop the cruelty inside this family, but I prayed you never became part of it.
The small cottage by Willow Lake belongs to you now.
Not because you need wealth.
Because every child deserves a place where peace can grow.

Evelyn quietly folded the letter.
