Chapter 5 - The Sunrise of a New Empire and Happily Ever AfterSix months later, the private cliffside terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in Amalfi, Italy, was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a Mediterranean sunset.

The air was sweet with the scent of blossoming lemon trees, salt water, and expensive French champagne. There were no politicians whispering betrayal, no mafia capos hiding weapons beneath tailored suits, and no arrogant socialites sneering from the sidelines. There was only family, peace, and absolute loyalty.
At the center of the white stone terrace stood Elena Carter—or rather, Elena Moretti.
She wore a breathtaking, custom-designed ivory lace wedding gown that swept gracefully across the ancient stone floor. Her dark hair was styled in soft, cascading waves, adorned with tiny diamond-encrusted silver hairpins that caught the dying sunlight. There was no trace of the exhaustion, the fear, or the silver tray of her past life. Her eyes shone with a radiant, unshakeable joy.
Standing a few feet away, holding a small bouquet of white roses, was her mother—fully recovered, breathing easily, and smiling through happy tears as she watched her daughter. The endowment fund Dante had established had not only cured her illness, but given her a new lease on life.
At the altar stood Dante. He had discarded his usual charcoal-colored combat armor of heavy syndicate suits for a relaxed, cream-linen wedding suit, his white shirt unbuttoned slightly at the collar. The dark, piercing intensity in his eyes was still there, but tonight, it was entirely softened by a profound, radiant love as he watched his bride walk down the stone aisle toward him.
Off to the side, standing among a small, select group of fiercely loyal friends and reformed business partners, Marcus gave a subtle, respectful nod of approval.
The Bennett shipping empire, unable to weather the combined weight of federal investigations and Moretti financial blockades, had collapsed and dissolved into bankruptcy four months prior, with Arthur Bennett retiring in disgrace to a quiet island in the Pacific. Vanessa Bennett was long gone from New York society, a footnote of a cautionary tale about arrogance and cruelty.
Elena reached the altar, her hand sliding smoothly into Dante’s outstretched palm. His fingers were warm, strong, and completely steady.
“You look breathtaking,” Dante whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he lifted her veil.
“You clean up nicely for a mafia boss,” Elena teased softly, a bright, melodic laugh escaping her lips.
The priest smiled warmly, finishing the final benediction, and pronounced them husband and wife.
When Dante leaned down and pressed his lips to hers, the scattered applause of their closest loved ones echoed softly across the cliffside, swallowed by the gentle, rhythmic crashing of the waves far below.
Later that evening, as the stars burst across the Italian night sky like a canopy of silver diamonds, Elena stood at the edge of the stone terrace, leaning against the balcony railing. The warm sea breeze played gently with the hem of her gown.
Dante walked up quietly behind her, wrapping his strong arms securely around her waist and resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder, pulling her back against his chest.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Moretti?” he murmured into her hair, inhaling the sweet scent of jasmine and vanilla.
Elena smiled out at the vast, shimmering expanse of the dark sea, feeling completely safe for the first time in her life. She reached back, placing her hand over his, feeling the heavy gold wedding band resting against his finger.

“I was just thinking about a silver tray, a spilled drop of champagne, and a very stubborn man who noticed a tear,” Elena whispered, turning her head to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
Dante smiled, tightening his embrace as they stood together beneath the starlit sky, ready to face whatever tomorrow brought—side by side, forever.
