Chapter 5 - Justice, Empire, and a New Beginning (The End)The police sirens wailing outside the Bennett estate sounded like a symphony of sweet victory.

Within twenty minutes of Dante’s violent entrance into the study, federal marshals and local anti-corruption detectives had flooded the mansion. Richard Bennett was hauled out in handcuffs, screaming useless threats as the evidence of his corporate fraud, bribery, and embezzlement—downloaded straight from his wall safe—flashed on federal tablets.
By sunrise, the financial news networks were broadcasting breaking reports that the entire Bennett corporate empire had collapsed into receivership. Vanessa Bennett was arrested at the Moretti mansion before she could board a private flight out of the country, her engagement ring confiscated as evidence in her father’s federal racketeering trial.
And me?
I was standing on the private penthouse balcony of Dante’s downtown skyscraper, watching the golden morning sun rise over the skyline of Charlotte.
The heavy burden that had crushed my family for three years was finally gone. My mother’s medical treatments were fully funded by a newly established philanthropic foundation bearing my father’s name—backed entirely by seized assets legally returned to their rightful heirs.
The glass balcony door slid open, and footsteps approached softly from behind.
A warm, heavy wool jacket draped over my shoulders, smelling of cedar and expensive soap. Strong arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me back against a solid, familiar chest.
"You should be sleeping, Elena," Dante murmured, resting his chin gently on my shoulder. "You've had a very long night."
"I don't think I'll ever need to sleep again," I whispered honestly, leaning back into his embrace and covering his hands with mine. "Everything is... it's finally over."
"Not over," Dante corrected softly, turning me around in his arms so I could look up into his face. "It's just beginning."
He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box that looked entirely different from the one he had given Vanessa. He opened it to reveal a stunning, elegant antique diamond ring that had belonged to his grandmother—a ring that carried no political baggage, no corporate greed, and no deceit. Just absolute, unwavering devotion.
"I never wanted a corporate merger, Elena," Dante said, his dark eyes shining with a raw, vulnerable sincerity that only I was ever allowed to see. "I wanted you. From the very first night you walked into my life and refused to let me pay for your coffee. Will you stay and help me run this empire—not as my employee, not as a guest, but as my equal?"
Tears pricked my eyes once more, but this time, they weren't tears of heartbreak or humiliation. They were tears of pure, unadulterated freedom.
I smiled, my heart soaring higher than the skyscrapers surrounding us.

"Only if I get to be the one who makes the coffee," I teased gently.
Dante laughed—a deep, resonant sound that chased away every remaining shadow of the past—and pulled me close, sealing our future with a long, breathtaking kiss as the city woke up to a brand-new day.
