Chapter 2

The Collapse of Authority
The grand, opulent, and completely silent ballroom felt incredibly cold, heavy, and immensely tense. Eleanor, the previously proud, arrogant, and fiercely dominating matriarch, stared blankly, stupidly, and completely speechlessly at the highly imposing, stern, and entirely unyielding face of the chief counsel. Chloe, her usually smug, entitled, and deeply malicious daughter, visibly trembled, shook, and practically cowered behind her shocked mother. I stood incredibly tall, firm, and remarkably calm, gently, protectively, and lovingly resting my hand directly over my pregnant, slightly rounded, and deeply precious stomach. The heavy, wooden, and completely locked doors effectively trapped them all securely inside. No one, absolutely no one, was allowed to move, speak, or even breathe loudly in my venue. The general manager, a highly efficient, loyal, and perfectly trained professional, quickly, respectfully, and quietly handed me a soft, plush, and deeply comforting cashmere shawl. I wrapped it tightly, securely, and warmly around my torn, ruined, and deeply violated dress. The sheer, unadulterated, and completely absolute shock on Eleanor's incredibly pale, wrinkled, and deeply horrified face was highly satisfying, deeply vindicating, and truly magnificent to actively watch. "This is highly absurd," Eleanor finally, weakly, and incredibly desperately stammered. "We are the immensely powerful, highly respected, and deeply connected Vance family," she added, her voice cracking, breaking, and completely failing to command any real, actual, or meaningful authority. Fiona, the fiercely intelligent, highly sharp, and incredibly intimidating lawyer, merely, coldly, and highly dismissively smiled. "This highly prestigious, incredibly expensive, and truly massive estate legally belongs entirely, exclusively, and completely to the Sterling corporation," Fiona firmly, clearly, and loudly clarified to the highly stunned, deeply silent, and absolutely breathless crowd. "And Madam Sterling here," Fiona continued, gesturing respectfully, warmly, and highly deferentially toward me, "is the sole, absolute, and fully undisputed owner of that highly lucrative, incredibly massive, and deeply historic company." The collective, highly audible, and incredibly dramatic gasp that immediately, swiftly, and completely filled the massive, gilded ballroom was absolute, pure, and deeply melodic poetry to my highly tired, deeply exhausted, but incredibly victorious ears. The incredibly thick, highly oppressive, and truly deeply suffocating silence stretched on for several incredibly long, highly deeply agonizing, and truly highly satisfying minutes. Eleanor opened her highly wrinkled, deeply truly highly trembling mouth to completely loudly, highly deeply truly foolishly protest once again. However, before she could fully, highly deeply truly completely form a highly deeply truly coherent, incredibly highly deeply logical sentence, the heavy, highly deeply truly imposing ballroom doors were highly deeply truly loudly, incredibly highly deeply forcefully unlocked from the outside.
