Chapter 4 - The Walk Down the Aisle and the Moment of Truth

The sun rose over Southampton on Saturday morning in a blaze of brilliant golden light. The Atlantic ocean sparkled like crushed diamonds, and the manicured lawns of the Montgomery estate were pristine, decorated with thousands of imported white roses.
Yet, inside the private chapel on the estate grounds, the atmosphere was thick with suffocating dread.
Three hundred high-society guests sat in absolute silence. Nobody whispered. Nobody smiled. Everyone knew something catastrophic was about to happen.
In the front row sat Winston Montgomery, his face the color of ash, sweating profusely despite the cool air conditioning. Two rows back sat Preston Harrington, twitching nervously, his eyes darting frantically toward the heavy oak chapel doors.
On the left side of the aisle, occupying the entire VIP row, sat Gabriel Rossi and six of his top enforcers. Gabriel wore a sharp, custom-tailored black suit, his expression completely unreadable as he stared straight ahead toward the altar.
At the front of the chapel stood Father Thomas, looking visibly uncomfortable, clutching his leather-bound Bible with white knuckles.
The organist began playing the traditional wedding march.
The heavy wooden doors swung open.
Vivienne Montgomery stepped into the sunlight.
Gasps echoed through the chapel. She didn't look like a terrified hostage or a reluctant bride. She walked down the aisle with the poise of an empress entering her conquered territory. The crimson silk lining of her cathedral train trailed dramatically behind the ivory lace, catching the morning light filtering through the stained-glass windows.
Preston tried to smile, but his lips quivered.
Winston stared at her with pure, unadulterated hatred, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white.
Vivienne kept her eyes locked forward. She didn't look at her father. She didn't look at Preston.
Her gaze met Gabriel Rossi’s.
For a fraction of a second, Gabriel gave her an almost imperceptible nod—a silent gesture of absolute respect and unwavering support.
Vivienne reached the altar, turning gracefully to face the priest. Preston stepped forward, offering a trembling, sweaty hand. Vivienne ignored his hand entirely, keeping her arms resting calmly at her sides.
Father Thomas cleared his throat nervously, his hands shaking slightly as he opened the liturgy.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and these witnesses to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony...”
The traditional words echoed through the silent chapel, feeling hollow and heavy with impending doom.
Father Thomas rushed through the service, his eyes darting anxiously toward Gabriel Rossi in the front row before finally reaching the crucial moment.
He looked at Preston. “Do you, Preston Harrington, take Vivienne Montgomery to be your lawful wedded wife, to live together in holy matrimony, to love her, honor her, and cherish her, for as long as you both shall live?”
Preston swallowed hard, his voice cracking slightly in the quiet chapel. “I... I do.”
Father Thomas turned his gaze toward Vivienne. The silence in the room became so heavy it felt impossible to breathe. Every guest leaned forward, holding their breath.
“And do you, Vivienne Montgomery, take Preston Harrington to be your lawful wedded husband, to love, honor, and obey him...”
Before the priest could even finish the sentence, Winston Montgomery leaped from his seat in the front row, his face purple with rage.
“She takes him!” Winston shouted, his voice echoing off the chapel walls. “She takes him! Stop wasting time, priest, and pronounce them married right now!”
Vivienne didn't blink. She turned her head slowly toward her father, her eyes flashing with cold fire.
“Sit down, Father,” Vivienne said, her voice clear, calm, and carrying absolute authority across every microphone in the chapel. “You don't speak for me anymore.”
Winston froze, his mouth hanging open in sheer disbelief.
Father Thomas looked wildly between Winston, Preston, and Vivienne, terrified of moving. He looked toward Gabriel Rossi for guidance.
Gabriel remained seated, crossing his legs casually, his lips curving into a slow, dangerous smile. “Let the bride speak,” Gabriel commanded softly, his voice cutting through the silence like thunder.
Vivienne turned back to the priest. She reached into the hidden pocket of her wedding dress and pulled out a thick legal folder, slamming it down hard onto the velvet-covered altar.
“I do not take Preston Harrington,” Vivienne announced clearly, her voice ringing out through the chapel speakers. “And I do not consent to this fraudulent marriage built on stolen trusts, forged collateral, and corporate embezzlement.”
Preston panicked, lunging forward to grab the papers. “She’s insane! She’s having a nervous breakdown! Arrest her!”
Before Preston could touch the folder, two of Gabriel Rossi’s tactical enforcers stepped out from the aisle, grabbing Preston by the shoulders and slamming him face-down onto the wooden altar with a loud thud.
“联邦特警 / Federal Marshals!” shouted two men in dark suits standing near the back doors, flashing gold badges as they rushed down the aisle toward the front.
“Preston Harrington, you are under arrest for wire fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy to commit financial extortion,” the lead federal agent announced, slapping steel handcuffs onto Preston’s wrists as he screamed and thrashed against the altar.
Winston rushed toward the aisle, his face twisted in panic. “You can't do this! This is my family! This is my company!”
Gabriel Rossi stood up slowly from his seat. He walked over to Winston, towering over the terrified patriarch, looking down at him with absolute contempt.
“Your company belongs to your daughter now, Winston,” Gabriel said coldly, pulling a federal arrest warrant from his inner suit pocket and dropping it onto Winston’s chest. “And you are under arrest for corporate fraud, obstruction of justice, and illegal asset seizure.”

Four federal agents flanked Winston immediately, clicking handcuffs around his wrists as he cursed and fought blindly against them.
As her father and her ex-fiancé were dragged in disgrace down the very aisle meant to celebrate their victory, Vivienne stood tall at the altar, the cathedral train of her stunning dress trailing behind her like the flag of a newly crowned queen.
