Chapter 12

Thanksgiving approached with a sense of calm,

lacking the usual chaotic frenzy of the past,

and bringing a refreshing wave of pure simplicity.

We decided to keep the holiday incredibly small,

inviting only a few close neighborhood friends,

and focusing entirely on the people who truly mattered.

Trevor took charge of the entire dinner menu,

wanting to recreate his grandfather's famous roast turkey,

and spending hours carefully prepping in the kitchen.

The rich smell of savory herbs filled the air,

mixing with the sweet scent of baking pumpkin pies,

and making the whole house feel incredibly festive.

The children helped me set the large dining table,

carefully placing the good silver beside the plates,

and folding the linen napkins into funny little shapes.

We did not use the expensive crystal wine glasses,

opting instead for the sturdy everyday drinking cups,

and avoiding any unnecessary stress over accidental spills.

When we finally sat down to eat the meal,

Trevor raised his glass for a heartfelt toast,

and thanked me for keeping the family anchor secure.

He spoke beautifully about the true meaning of home,

bringing happy tears to the eyes of our guests,

and making my heart swell with an overwhelming pride.

The dinner conversation was light and wonderfully engaging,

filled with nostalgic stories from my own distant youth,

and exciting dreams for the children's bright future.

Nobody mentioned the difficult divorce or the bitter past,

choosing instead to actively celebrate the present moment,

and to honor the unbreakable bonds of our family.

After the heavy meal was finally finished and cleared,

we moved to the living room for a board game,

and spent the entire evening laughing until our sides hurt.

Sam proved to be a fiercely competitive little player,

cheating just enough to keep things incredibly interesting,

and flashing a mischievous grin when he was playfully caught.

It was a perfect night of shared human connection,

a beautiful reminder of what actually matters in life,

and a solid proof that we had truly healed.

I looked around the cozy room at my happy family,

feeling a profound sense of deep spiritual fulfillment,

and knowing that my legacy was safely preserved forever.

Thanksgiving had never felt so incredibly deeply authentic,

May you like

stripping away all the fake societal expectations,

and leaving behind only the pure essence of gratitude.
