Chapter 3
At 10:00 AM,
Alice walked into Marcus’s downtown office.
The glass doors slid open.
The receptionist nodded at her.
Marcus was waiting in the conference room.
He had files spread across the mahogany table.
He looked up as she entered.
His eyes immediately went to her bruised cheek.
His jaw tightened.
"Have a seat,"
he said softly.
Alice sat down.
She placed her phone on the table.
"Did you watch the video?"
she asked.
Marcus nodded.
"I watched it ten times.
It is the most damning piece of evidence I have ever seen in my career.
Your father-in-law is going to jail,
Alice."
"Good,"
she said without hesitation.
"But before he goes to jail,
I want to take everything else.
I want the house.
I want my parents' money back.
And I want to expose Patricia for the liar she is."
Marcus smiled.
It was a shark’s smile.
"I already filed the preliminary injunction on the property,"
he said,
sliding a document toward her.
"Kevin cannot sell it,
borrow against it,
or move anyone into it.
The down payment was a gift,
but we can argue it was contingent on the marriage.
Since the marriage lasted exactly forty-eight hours,
we are filing for an annulment based on fraud."
Alice raised an eyebrow.
"Fraud?"
"Yes,"
Marcus said.
"Kevin presented himself as a supportive partner.
He hid the abusive nature of his family.
He failed to protect you.
It is a strong case,
especially with the assault footage."
Alice signed the document.
Her signature was bold and sharp.
"What about the police?"
she asked.
"We file the report today,"
Marcus replied.
"But we do not tell them we have the video yet.
We let Frank lie to the cops.
We let Patricia corroborate his lie.
We let Kevin back them up.
And then,
when they are all on the record lying to a detective,
we hand over the flash drive."
Alice felt a thrill run down her spine.
It was brilliant.
It was ruthless.
It was exactly what they deserved.
"They will hang themselves,"
she murmured.
"Exactly,"
Marcus agreed.
Suddenly,
Alice’s phone lit up on the table.
It was a text from Kevin.
"Alice,
I am outside your parents' house.
I want to talk.
Please come out."
Alice stared at the screen.
Marcus leaned over and read it.
"Do not go,"
he warned.
"Let him sit there."
Alice shook her head.
"No.
I want to see him.
I want him to dig his grave a little deeper."
Marcus looked concerned.
"Be careful.
He is desperate."
"I am not afraid of Kevin,"
Alice said coldly.
"He is a coward."
She stood up.
She grabbed her coat.
"I will go out the back door.
I will talk to him in the driveway.
And I will record every single word."
Marcus nodded slowly.
"Keep it brief.
Do not make any promises.
Just let him talk."
Alice walked out of the office.

She was not a victim anymore.
She was the hunter.
