Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup And The Final Judgment

The shock wave of Gavin's financial and professional collapse hit Vance Enterprises like a category-five hurricane by noon that same day.

Stripped of his corporate shares, locked out of his executive accounts, and facing immediate forensic audits for corporate fraud and embezzlement of company funds to finance his mistress, Gavin rushed to his office tower only to find security guards standing outside the mahogany boardroom doors with strict orders barring his entry.

I sat comfortably in the executive leather chair at the head of the boardroom table, flanked by Marcus and three senior corporate directors who had long despised Gavin's arrogant mismanagement. Through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, the entire Manhattan financial district gleamed under the midday sun.

The heavy glass doors flew open with a violent crash. Gavin stood in the doorway, disheveled, his tie crooked, his face flushed with a mixture of raw panic and blind rage.

"Valerie! What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Gavin screamed, storming toward the table before the security guards stepped forward, pinning his arms behind his back and forcing him to a halt.

I didn't flinch. I slowly swivelled my chair around, resting my hands neatly on the polished mahogany surface. I looked at the man who, just three weeks ago, had stood in our greenhouse and casually discarded his own daughter like trash.

"Sit down, Gavin," I commanded, my voice carrying an effortless, razor-sharp authority that commanded absolute silence in the room.

"You can't do this to me!" Gavin thrashed against the guards, his voice cracking desperately as he looked around the room at the board members who refused to meet his eyes. "This is my company! I built this! She's just a bitter, hysterical wife staging a coup!"

"A coup requires an illegal takeover, Mr. Vance," one of the senior directors spoke up coldly, adjusting his glasses. "What Mrs. Vance has executed is a legal, contractual repossession based on the financial and moral default clauses you foolishly signed away years ago. Furthermore, our internal audit has discovered over four hundred thousand dollars in corporate embezzlement diverted to personal luxury accounts for a woman named Chloe Miller. The district attorney's office has already been notified."

Blood drained entirely from Gavin's face. He stopped struggling against the guards, his knees buckling slightly as the crushing weight of reality slammed into him. The empire he had built on arrogance, deceit, and cruelty had dissolved into ash in less than twelve hours.

Just then, the boardroom doors pushed open once more. Chloe stepped inside, wearing an expensive designer dress, carrying a shopping bag, and wearing a bright, oblivious smile.

"Gavin, darling, the interior designer is waiting at the house, and your mother called to say—" Chloe stopped dead in her tracks, her smile freezing as she looked around the tense, silent room and saw Gavin pinned by security guards next to a table of grim-faced attorneys.

She blinked, looking at me sitting regally at the head of the table. "What is going on here? Why are security guards in the boardroom? Gavin, tell them to get these people out!"

Gavin slowly turned his head toward her, his eyes filled with a toxic mixture of loathing, regret, and utter despair. The golden illusion of their future together had vanished into thin air. There was no mansion, no luxury cars, no corporate expense accounts, and no escape.

"Get out," Gavin muttered hoarsenedly.

"What?" Chloe blinked, her voice rising in panic. "What do you mean, get out? We're supposed to move into the master suite today!"

"I said, get out of my sight!" Gavin roared, finally snapping under the crushing pressure of his total ruin. "This is all your fault! If you hadn't pushed me to get rid of Valerie, none of this would have happened!"

Chloe's jaw dropped. Before she could launch into a furious tirade, Marcus stood up, sliding a civil summons across the table toward her feet.

"Miss Miller, you are also being served with a multi-million-dollar civil lawsuit for intentional interference with contract, alienation of affection, and recovery of stolen corporate funds," Marcus announced calmly. "Every luxury item, every apartment lease, and every cent of clothing purchased with company funds will be seized immediately through wage garnishment and property seizure."

Chloe stared at the document on the floor, her face turning pale as terror gripped her heart. Without a word, she turned on her heel and fled out the boardroom doors, her high heels clicking frantically down the hallway until she disappeared from view.

The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.

Gavin slumped forward, the guards finally releasing his arms as he fell heavily into a nearby chair, burying his face in his trembling hands. His shoulders shook with silent, helpless sobs. He had lost everything—his wealth, his status, his mistress, his home, and most importantly, the family that had loved and supported him through every dark moment.

I stood up slowly from the chair, buttoning my blazer, and looked down at him one last time.

"You gave me three weeks to disappear, Gavin," I said softly, my voice cutting through the quiet room like a bell. "You told me you never wanted a daughter. But you were wrong about one very important thing."

May you like

Gavin raised his head slowly, his tear-filled eyes locking onto mine with desperate pleading.

"Isabelle and I aren't the ones disappearing," I continued, turning toward the doors. "We are just getting started."
