Chapter 3 - The Underworld Syndicate Gala, the Public Declaration of Love, and the Happiest Ending on Beacon StreetTwo weeks later, the grand ballroom of the Fairmont Copley Plaza played host to the annual Greater Boston Winter Charity Gala—an opulent, high-society gathering where politicians, corporate executives, and syndicate capos rubbed shoulders beneath towering crystal chandeliers.

The room buzzed with the sound of clinking champagne flutes, whispered gossip, and classical string music.
Near the grand staircase, standing beside a cluster of white hydrangeas, Celeste Bowmont stood wearing a stunning, ice-blue designer gown, chatting animatedly with a group of investment bankers. She hadn't shown her face near Beacon Street since the tailor shop incident, but tonight was the biggest social event of the season, and she clearly believed enough time had passed for her to recover her footing.
Then, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open.
Conversations faltered. Heads turned. The string quartet seemed to stutter for a fraction of a second.
Adrien Moretti stepped into the room.
He wore a custom-tailored obsidian tuxedo, looking every bit the untouchable syndicate king. But he wasn't alone.
Linked securely through his arm, walking with an effortless, radiant grace that commanded the entire room, was me.
I wore a breathtaking, deep emerald silk-velvet gown that had been custom-designed and hand-stitched by my own assistant and me over the last ten days. It hugged my full curves with absolute, flawless precision, catching the light of the crystal chandeliers with every step we took. My dark curls were swept up into an elegant chignon, and resting proudly on my left ring finger was a vintage, flawless diamond ring that Adrien had slipped onto my hand across the candlelit table at Lucia’s.
Gasps rippled through the high-society crowd. Whispers erupted like wildfire.
Celeste Bowmont turned pale, her champagne flute trembling so violently in her hand that amber liquid sloshed over the rim.
Adrien didn't look at any of them. He led me straight down the center aisle, his dark eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable pride.
As we reached the center of the ballroom, the event director tapped a microphone on the raised dais to command the floor.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the director announced clearly. “Our principal benefactor for tonight’s foundation, Mr. Adrien Moretti, wishes to share a personal announcement.”
The ballroom fell dead, suffocatingly quiet.
Adrien stepped up to the microphone, keeping one hand resting gently against the small of my back, anchoring me beside him in front of three hundred staring, astounded faces.
“Thank you all for supporting the Boston Children’s Hospital foundation tonight,” Adrien began, his deep, resonant voice carrying effortlessly across the hall. “For years, this city has known me through rumors, business filings, and corporate ledgers. People have spent a long time trying to define my world, my alliances, and my life.”
He turned his head slowly, locking his dark gaze directly onto Celeste Bowmont, who shrank back behind an investment banker to escape his terrifying glare.
“Tonight,” Adrien continued, his voice dropping into a register of absolute, raw devotion that made the entire room hold its breath, “I want to introduce you to the woman who actually defines my world. She is brilliant, fierce, unapologetic, and the finest tailor in this commonwealth. Effective immediately, Evelyn Hart is not only my partner in business and in life... she is my future wife, and the absolute queen of everything I build.”
The ballroom erupted into thunderous, stunned applause. High-society matrons gasped, corporate executives stared in open shock, and flashbulbs blinded the dais as cameras captured the historic announcement.
Adrien stepped down from the microphone, pulling me flush against his solid chest, and captured my lips in a deep, fierce, undeniable kiss right there in front of the entire city.

The socialites could whisper all they wanted, the snobby boutiques could lock their doors, and the underworld could keep spinning its dark webs. I had built my life stitch by stitch, and I had finally found a man willing to burn down the entire world just to keep me warm.
As Adrien held me against his heart beneath the brilliant crystal lights, the plus-size tailor from Beacon Street knew her happy ending had only just begun.
