Chapter 5 - A New Queen Rises (The End)Six months later.

The autumn wind blowing off Lake Michigan was crisp and clear, carrying the clean scent of changing leaves and absolute, unadulterated freedom.

I stood on the grand wrap-around balcony of a newly renovated penthouse overlooking the Chicago skyline. The city below was moving forward, free from the dark shadow of syndicate control. The docks were clean, the municipal courts were under federal oversight, and Moretti Global Enterprises had been legally dissolved, its remaining legitimate real estate assets reorganized under a new philanthropic foundation dedicated to supporting victims of corporate fraud—named after my father.

I was wearing a sharp, elegant cream-colored cashmere coat, my hair blowing softly in the breeze. Around my neck hung no expensive, heavy jewelry bought with dirty syndicate money. Instead, resting against my collarbone was a simple, delicate silver locket containing a photograph of my father smiling on the day he graduated from law school.

Behind me, the glass balcony door slid open.

Agent Robert Vance stepped out onto the terrace, carrying two cups of steaming hot black coffee. He handed one to me with a warm, respectful smile.

"The final receivership documents were signed this morning by the district court judge," Robert reported quietly, leaning against the stone balustrade beside me. "The foundation is officially fully funded. You did it, Elena. You actually took back the city."

I took a slow sip of the coffee, letting the warmth spread through me. "I didn't do it alone, Robert. I couldn't have survived it without your help."

"You would have," Robert chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I've seen the way your mind works. You were always ten steps ahead of Dante—he was just too arrogant to realize that the woman running his empire was the one holding the leash."

I smiled, looking out over the magnificent skyline where the sun was beginning to set, painting the clouds in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

Far across the city, inside a maximum-security federal penitentiary, Dante Moretti was sitting in a sterile, gray concrete cell, living out the remainder of his days with nothing left of the empire he had built except the memory of the wife he had arrogantly thrown away.

He had wanted a woman with edge, a woman who walked into a room like she owned it, a woman who played the high-society game. And in the end, he got exactly what he asked for—only she hadn't played his game. She had rewritten the rules, destroyed his board, and walked away like the true queen she had always been.

Robert placed his hand gently over mine on the railing.

"So, Madame Chairwoman," Robert asked with a warm, teasing glint in his eyes. "What's next for Elena Moretti? Now that the war is won?"

I looked up at the endless autumn sky, taking a deep, refreshing breath of the crisp Chicago air.

"Just the beginning, Robert," I whispered, a confident, radiant smile breaking across my face. "Just the beginning."
