Chapter 3 - The Blood-Stained Wedding Veil, The Trap At Dawn, And The Arrival Of The Federal MarshalsThe morning sun broke over the Manhattan skyline like a jagged blade of light, painting the sky in violent shades of crimson and orange. Inside the master bridal suite, Claire Whitlock stood before the massive gilded mirror, admiring her custom French lace wedding dress.

Today was supposed to be her absolute triumph. By sunset, she would be legally married to Daniel Carver, cementing her family's absolute control over the city's most powerful shipping empire.
The heavy oak doors burst open without a knock.
Claire turned around with an irritated shriek, her expression twisting into pure venom as she saw me standing in the doorway, wearing a crisp black dress instead of my maid's uniform, holding a silver tray with a single, unopened envelope.
"What do you think you're doing in here, you filthy little rat?" Claire hissed, stepping forward on stiletto heels. "Get out of my sight before I have security throw you off the balcony!"
"You might want to read this first, Ms. Whitlock," I said calmly, my voice steady and ice-cold. I placed the silver tray on her vanity table.
Claire scoffed, ripping open the envelope. She pulled out a single sheet of paper containing encrypted bank transfer records, alongside high-resolution photographs of her father meeting with international arms dealers at a private marina—the exact marina where Aaron's boat had been sabotaged.
Color instantly drained from Claire's face. Her meticulously manicured hands began to shake violently until the papers fluttered like dead leaves onto the marble floor.
"W-Where did you get these?" she stammered, her voice cracking with sudden panic. "This... this is forged! Lies! Complete lies!"
"Is it?"
A deep, menacing voice echoed from the doorway.
Daniel walked into the suite, flanked not by his estate guards, but by four armed Federal Marshals in tactical gear. Behind them stood Martin Hale, holding a heavy leather briefcase containing the master server logs copied from the estate's underground basement.
Claire stumbled backward, her pristine white wedding dress sweeping across the dust as she hit the edge of the velvet lounge chair. "Daniel... baby, listen to me. That maid—she's lying! She's trying to ruin our wedding because she's jealous!"
Daniel didn't even look at her. He walked straight past his hysterical fiancée, stopped right in front of me, and gently reached out to tuck a stray lock of my hair behind my ear. His touch was infinitely tender, a stark contrast to the apocalyptic storm brewing in his eyes.
"Are you alright?" he asked softly, ignoring the chaos erupting around us.
"I'm fine," I replied, a small, fierce smile touching my lips. "Let's finish this."
Daniel turned back to the Federal Marshals, his voice cutting through the room like shattered glass.
"Agent Miller, arrest her for corporate espionage, money laundering, and the conspiracy-related murder of harbor mechanic Aaron Miller."
"No! You can't do this! I am a Whitlock!" Claire screamed, lunging forward like a cornered animal, her fingernails clawing toward my face. "I'll kill you! I'll rip that bastard child right out of your stomach!"
Before she could take another step, two marshals grabbed her arms, pinning her against the wall and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists. She shrieked curses and obscenities as they dragged her kicking and screaming down the grand hallway, her expensive bridal veil catching on the doorframe and tearing away in shreds.
The room fell into a heavy, resonant silence.
I let out a long, shuddering breath that I felt like I had been holding for eight agonizing months. The weight of my husband's death, my brother's disappearance, and the endless terror of living behind enemy lines finally began to lift from my shoulders.
Daniel reached out, gently wrapping his arms around my waist, his large palm resting protectively over my seven-month-pregnant belly. Our baby gave a sudden, energetic kick against his hand.

Daniel looked down, a rare, breathtaking smile breaking across his handsome face as his eyes welled with unshed tears.
"Looks like our little fighter agrees," Daniel whispered, leaning down to press a tender kiss against my forehead. "It's over, Elena. You're safe now. And I swear to you... no one will ever hurt you or this baby ever again."
