Chapter 5 - The Unbroken Queen

Six months later.

The bright spring sun broke brilliantly over the rolling green lawns and crystal waters of the Romano estate, casting a golden light across the grand outdoor courtyard.

Over four hundred high-society guests, regional syndicate leaders, political figures, and international allies had gathered for the annual Romano Spring Gala.

The atmosphere was magnificent. Fresh white roses draped from the marble columns, a live symphony orchestra played near the fountains, and silver champagne trays were carried smoothly by impeccably dressed servers.

Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase, wearing an immaculate dark tuxedo, was Gabriel Romano.

He looked towering, commanding, and strikingly handsome, his dark eyes glowing with a deep, unshakeable happiness as he held out his arm toward the grand double doors of the estate.

The doors opened.

A collective, breathless gasp swept through the entire assembly of four hundred guests.

I walked out onto the marble terrace, wearing a breathtaking, custom-designed dark emerald silk gown that swept gracefully across the floor. My right hand had completely healed, without a single scar, and on my left hand, the black platinum Romano Sovereign Ring gleamed brilliantly under the spring sunlight.

Walking beside me, looking healthy, proud, and completely recovered, was my father.

Gabriel stepped forward, taking my hand into his broad, warm grip. He pulled me close against his side, leaning down to whisper into my ear, “You are the most breathtaking sight in the universe, my Queen.”

“And you look far better than you did six months ago, Don Romano,” I smiled radiantly.

Gabriel turned toward the massive crowd of guests, raising his crystal champagne glass high into the air.

“To my wife, Catherine Romano,” Gabriel’s booming baritone echoed across the grand estate. “The brain, the heart, and the undisputed leader of the Romano dynasty!”

The entire assembly erupted into thunderous, standing applause! High-society matriarchs, regional captains, and international business leaders raised their glasses high in grand honor of the woman who had saved the empire.

Elena Romano, sitting quietly at a small side table near the back row—having been granted a temporary two-hour visit under strict protocol—looked at me with a mixture of quiet defeat and deep, undeniable respect, slowly raising her glass to honor her son’s wife.

My father walked over, tears of genuine joy in his eyes, hugging me tightly. “I am so proud of you, Catherine. Your mother is looking down from heaven with so much joy today.”

“Thank you, Dad,” I murmured, kissing his cheek.

Later that evening, as the silver stars began to illuminate the quiet waters of Lake Michigan, Gabriel and I stood together on the private master balcony, looking out over the peaceful city skyline.

The cool spring breeze swept across the balcony, lifting the emerald silk of my dress.

Gabriel wrapped his broad arms gently around my waist from behind, pulling me flush against his warm, powerful chest, resting his chin softly against my shoulder.

“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Romano?” Gabriel whispered softly into my ear, his deep voice filling my heart with an overwhelming sense of safety, warmth, and peace.

I set my hands over his on my waist, looking down at the magnificent diamond ring gleaming on my finger.

“I was thinking about the place card,” I murmured with a soft, warm laugh, turning around in his arms to look up into his handsome face. “The night I folded it and walked toward the kitchen... I thought my life in this house was over.”

Gabriel smiled deeply, his dark gray eyes glowing with an eternal, unbroken devotion as he pulled me closer against his beating heart.

“You didn't leave this house, Catherine,” Gabriel whispered against my lips, framing my face in his broad hands. “You took your rightful place... as the true ruler of my heart, my empire, and my soul.”

He leaned down and captured my lips in a slow, sweet, breathtaking kiss under the starlight, binding our hearts together for all eternity.

And standing high above the city, wrapped in the arms of the most powerful man in Chicago, the former mechanic's daughter reigned triumphant—not as a servant, but as the cherished, undisputed Queen of the Romano dynasty forever.
