Chapter 11

The summer heat faded quickly,

and the autumn winds arrived.

The leaves turned a bright gold,

and they covered our front yard.

Rosie loved the crisp morning air,

and she jumped in the leaf piles.

I watched her from the porch,

and I held a warm cup of coffee.

It was a peaceful morning,

and there were no harsh words.

We had our quiet routine now,

and it felt safe and predictable.

I made her pancakes for breakfast,

and she poured extra syrup on top.

She talked about her new teacher,

and she mentioned a boy named Leo.

Leo had a large dinosaur toy,

and Rosie wanted to trade with him.

I listened to her little stories,

and I realized how much she had grown.

Her voice was getting more confident,

and her smiles were much wider.

She did not flinch at sudden noises,

and she slept through the night.

The nightmares had slowly stopped,

and the house was filled with light.

We packed her small pink backpack,

and we walked to the bus stop.

The yellow bus arrived on time,

and she waved at me from the window.

I walked back to the empty house,

and I looked at the mantelpiece.

The photo of Anna was still there,

and her smile warmed the living room.

I whispered a quiet good morning,

and I started my work for the day.

The silence was no longer heavy,

and it did not feel like a burden.

It felt like a gentle embrace,

and it gave me space to breathe.

I thought about Helen and David,

and I remembered their gentle visit.

Their love had left a lasting mark,

and it showed us what family meant.

I sent them a quick text message,

and I attached a picture of Rosie.

Helen replied almost immediately,

and she sent a row of heart emojis.

David asked about the autumn weather,

and he told me to stay warm.

It was a simple exchange of words,

and yet it meant the world to me.

I sat down at my wooden desk,

and I opened my laptop to work.

The day stretched out before me,

and I felt a deep sense of calm.

There were no crises to manage,

and there were no fires to put out.

There was only the quiet hum of life,

and the steady rhythm of our healing.

I knew Anna was watching over us,

and I knew she would be so proud.

The leaves continued to fall outside,

and the seasons gently changed.

May you like

We were moving forward together,

and we were never looking back.
