Chapter 1

Vanessa’s jaw slackened. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about the fact that the forensic accountant I hired didn’t just look at bank statements,” I said, taking a deliberate step toward them. “He audited your entire digital footprint, Vanessa. Every encrypted text message between you and my husband where you plotted to get me out of the picture. Every email discussing how my life insurance policy would cover the mortgage on your second apartment.”
Daniel stumbled backward, his hip hitting the edge of the dining table. “You… you hacked our communications?”
“I didn’t have to,” I replied, flashing a bitter, razor-sharp smile. “You left your corporate laptop logged into our home network, Daniel. Careless. Exactly the kind of sloppy mistake arrogant men make when they think their wives are invisible.”
Before either of them could formulate a lie, the sharp chime of the front doorbell echoed through the foyer.
Vanessa froze. Daniel’s eyes widened in sheer terror.
“Expecting guests for the promotion dinner?” I asked, tilting my head. “Too bad. Because I didn’t invite your boss, and I didn’t invite your corporate board members.”
I turned and walked toward the grand foyer, leaving them standing in the wreckage of spilled burgundy wine and shattered glass. With every step, the heavy weight of the past three months lifted off my shoulders. They thought they had cornered a domestic housewife, but they had actually cornered an apex predator who had merely been sleeping.
When I pulled open the heavy oak front door, the harsh blue and red flashing lights of two police cruisers painted the porch in a dizzying rhythm. Two uniformed officers stood on the steps, flanked by a tall, broad-shouldered man in a tailored charcoal suit whom I recognized instantly.
It was Detective Vance, my former co-counsel from the District Attorney’s office.
“Evening, Claire,” Vance said, nodding calmly as he glanced past me into the brightly lit foyer where Daniel and Vanessa stood paralyzed. “Dispatch received an automated tip regarding a potential felony narcotics distribution at this address, accompanied by preliminary digital affidavits. Are we ready to execute the warrant?”
I slid the white packet out of my pocket, dropping it neatly into an evidence bag Vance held out, and looked back at my terrified husband.
“Oh, we’re more than ready, Marcus,” I said, letting a dark, thrilling satisfaction bloom in my chest. “And trust me—this is only page one of the indictment.”
The Prosecutor’s Revenge: Part 3 – The Final Verdict
The heavy mahogany doors of Superior Courtroom 404 echoed with the steady click of my heels as I walked down the center aisle. I wasn't wearing my prosecutor’s badge anymore, but as I adjusted the lapels of my charcoal blazer, I felt the familiar, electric current of the courtroom surge back into my veins. For five years, I had locked that part of myself away, trading cross-examinations for domestic harmony and cross-stitch, believing that love meant sacrifice.
Now, looking across the aisle at the defense table, I realized sacrifice was just a polite word for surrender.
Daniel sat slumped in his chair, his custom-tailored Brioni suit suddenly looking two sizes too big for him. His hair, usually meticulously gelled, was messy and damp with sweat. Beside him, Vanessa was wrapped in a woolen blanket provided by the holding facility, her makeup entirely washed away to reveal a pale, hollowed-out face of raw panic. They hadn't made bail. Judge Sterling had denied it immediately upon seeing Detective Vance’s preliminary forensic packets, the toxicology report on the white powder—which turned out to be a potent, fast-acting synthetic paralytic combined with a heavy sedative—and the encrypted chat logs detailing their meticulous, cold-blooded timeline to eliminate me.
As I took my seat at the prosecutor’s advisory table—having been sworn in as a special assistant district attorney for this specific, expedited trial—the gallery behind us murmured like a hive of angry hornets. Daniel’s corporate board members, investors, and elite socialite friends sat in stunned silence. They had come expecting to celebrate Daniel’s promotion to CEO; instead, they were watching his entire empire implode in real-time.
My phone buzzed softly in my pocket. It wasn't just syncing to the cloud anymore. It was streaming live data to a secure digital archive managed by my forensic team. But before the trial could even begin, the final, most devastating secret of the entire conspiracy was about to be unmasked.
You see, the poisoning wasn't just a sudden crime of passion born out of their arrogant affair. It was the climax of an elaborate corporate conspiracy that went far deeper than a stolen promotion or a second apartment.

Judge Sterling rapped his gavel three times, cutting through the murmurs. "All rise for the court."
We stood. The air was thick with tension. Once we were seated, I stood up and buttoned my jacket, catching Daniel’s bloodshot eyes. He tried to mouth please, his lips trembling, but I didn't flinch.
