Chapter 17 - CELINA’S APOLOGY TO MAISY

Celina’s first letter was rejected by Maisy’s therapist.
Too much explanation.
Too much:
I was scared.
I wanted Audrey to succeed.
I made a mistake.
The therapist said:
“A seven-year-old does not need to carry the emotional context of the adult who harmed her.”
Good.
Second letter:
I broke your violin because I wanted to stop you from playing. That was wrong.
Good.
I used a recording of your music for Audrey’s application without permission. That was also wrong.
Specific.
Audrey did not ask me to do it.
Important.
Nothing that happened was your fault.
Good.
No:
Forgive me.
No:
Family.
No:
I love you.
Maisy listened.
Then asked:
“Can I not answer?”
May you like
“Yes.”
She did not.
