Chapter 13 - MOON

Maisy asked to repair Moon.
That surprised me.
I had expected replacement.
The luthier explained the repair honestly.
The instrument could be restored structurally.
The sound might change.
The scar would remain visible.
Maisy touched the crescent scratch she had always liked.
Then the new crack.
“Will people know?”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
Why good?
“Then Moon has story.”
Children are dangerous to adult symbolism.
We want pristine recovery.
They sometimes want history visible.
We repaired it.
Maisy used the conservatory replacement for three months.
Then Moon returned.
The first note sounded slightly darker.
Maisy smiled.
“Still him.”
