Chapter 4

Julian Vance paced relentlessly back and forth across the small,

windowless holding cell inside the federal courthouse,

his expensive Italian leather shoes clicking nervously against the cheap linoleum floor.

He had been isolated from the general prison population,

trading his explosive testimony against Judge Henderson for a slightly more comfortable,

temporary existence,

but his arrogant confidence had completely evaporated.

He knew that the death of Javier Robles was not a random act of prison violence,

it was a highly calculated,

surgical strike by the Miami cartel,

and he knew exactly who was next on their bloody list.

He had been the one to manage the hidden offshore accounts,

he had been the architect of the shadow ledgers,

and he possessed the master decryption keys that El Lobo desperately needed.

Julian approached the heavy steel door,

banging his fists against the reinforced glass,

screaming for the federal marshals,

and begging for an emergency transfer to a secure underground bunker.

Instead of a marshal,

the heavy door unlocked with a loud,

mechanical clank,

and Alexander Vance stepped slowly into the dim,

claustrophobic room,

flanked by two massive,

silent security operatives.

Julian stepped back,

his face turning completely pale,

his eyes wide with a mixture of desperate hope,

and absolute,

paralyzing terror.

He fell to his knees,

crawling toward his younger brother,

weeping openly,

and begging for Alexander to use his immense wealth to save him from the cartel assassins.

Alexander looked down at Julian,

his face an unreadable mask of cold,

hardened granite,

feeling absolutely nothing but a deep,

profound disgust for the traitor bleeding at his feet.

He reminded Julian of the night in the condo,

he reminded him of the secret recordings,

and the horrifying moment he had tried to sell Sofia to the highest criminal bidder.

Alexander pulled a sleek,

black digital tablet from his jacket pocket,

placing it onto the small metal table in the corner of the cell,

and offered Julian one final,

non-negotiable ultimatum.

He demanded the absolute,

unrestricted access codes to every single hidden account the cartel operated,

every shell company,

every corrupt politician,

and every single digital wallet they used to clean their dirty money.

Julian hesitated for a fraction of a second,

his greedy,

manipulative mind trying to calculate a way to maintain some leverage,

but Alexander simply turned around,

and placed his hand on the door handle.

Panicking,

Julian lunged forward,

grabbing the digital tablet,

his trembling fingers rapidly typing out the complex,

multi-layered alphanumeric passwords,

surrendering his only remaining bargaining chip.

Alexander picked up the tablet,

verifying the data transfer with a quick,

efficient glance,

and smoothly slipped the device back into his tailored jacket.

Julian looked up,

tears streaming down his face,

asking when the private security contractors would arrive to transport him to safety,

desperately clinging to the illusion of brotherly love.

Alexander stared at him,

his voice dropping into a chilling,

deadly calm,

and informed his brother that the federal government was entirely responsible for his safety now,

and that the Vance family no longer recognized his existence.

He walked out of the cell,

the heavy iron door slamming shut with an echoing,

final boom,

leaving Julian completely trapped,

isolated,

and fully exposed to the wrath of the very monsters he had tried to serve.

Alexander walked out of the courthouse,

the bright Dallas sun warming his face,

May you like

and handed the encrypted tablet to Marcus,

ready to burn the cartel's financial empire completely to the ground.
