Chapter 5 - The Wedding Under the Stars and the Beginning of Forever

Two years later.
The private cliffs of Amalfi, Italy, stretched out magnificently beneath a warm, Mediterranean summer sky, illuminated by thousands of twinkling fairy lights strung through the ancient olive groves and blooming bougainvillea. Soft, classical violin music drifted across the manicured lawns, mingling with the gentle, rhythmic crashing of the turquoise waves against the rocky shore far below.
It was a night of pure magic, luxury, and absolute joy.
At the altar crafted from white Italian marble and draped in cascading white roses, stood Matteo Romano. He wore a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo that fit his broad shoulders to perfection, his dark eyes fixed anxiously on the end of the aisle, waiting.
The string quartet transitioned into a sweeping, romantic melody.
The guests—consisting of loyal family members, trusted business associates, and close friends who had stood by them through fire and storm—all rose to their feet, turning their heads toward the grand arched doorway of the cliffside villa.
And then, she appeared.
Abigail Romano walked down the aisle on the arm of a smiling, proud family friend. She wore a breathtaking, custom-designed white lace illusion gown that hugged her elegant silhouette, her long silk veil trailing softly behind her over the stone pavers. Her hair was swept up in an intricate, classic chignon sparkling with diamond hairpins, and her face was illuminated by a radiant, breathtaking smile that outshined every diamond in Italy.
Carrying a small bouquet of white peonies, Abigail walked steadily toward the man who had torn down empires just to keep her safe.
Standing a few feet away, holding a tiny, giggling two-year-old toddler dressed in a miniature white tuxedo with a tiny silk bow tie, was Isabella. Little Leo—Matteo and Abigail’s miraculous son—waved enthusiastically at his mother, shouting happily across the garden: *"Mama! Mama!"*
The entire gathering chuckled softly, warming the atmosphere with genuine affection.
Abigail’s eyes locked onto Matteo’s. She could see the unmistakable shimmer of unshed tears shimmering in the dark eyes of the ruthless billionaire king who had conquered the underworld, but stood completely helpless before the love of his life.
When Abigail finally reached the altar, Matteo stepped forward immediately, gently lifting her veil and pressing a tender, lingering kiss to her forehead before taking both of her trembling hands in his.
“You take my breath away,” Matteo whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Every single day, Abigail. I look at you, and I still can’t believe you chose me.”
“I didn't just choose you, Matteo,” Abigail whispered back, her eyes shining with unshed tears of pure happiness. “You gave me a home when I was lost. You gave me a family when I was alone. You gave me the world.”
The elderly Italian priest standing before them smiled warmly, opening his leather-bound Bible, and began the sacred ceremony that would legally and spiritually bind their hearts together forever.
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate a love forged in the fires of adversity, sealed by grace, and consecrated by an unbreakable bond…”
As the priest spoke, Abigail looked out over the glittering Amalfi coastline, watching the golden sun dip slowly beneath the horizon, painting the sky in shades of amber, rose, and gold. She thought back to the freezing night in Queens, the struggling waitress working three jobs, the slap in the Grand Atoria ballroom that had shattered her old life into a million pieces.
If she hadn't dropped that tray... if Vanessa Sinclair hadn't struck her cheek... she never would have locked eyes with the man who had spent eight years searching for his sister’s savior. Pain had brought them together, but love had built a fortress around their future.
“Do you, Matteo Romano, take Abigail Foster to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love her, honor her, protect her, and cherish her for all the days of your life?”
Matteo looked deep into Abigail’s eyes, his expression fierce, devoted, and absolute.
“I do,” Matteo said clearly, his voice carrying across the entire cliffside.
“And do you, Abigail Foster, take Matteo Romano to be your lawfully wedded husband, to stand by his side through every storm, and to love him unconditionally for all eternity?”
Abigail smiled, her heart swelling with an overwhelming, radiant joy.
“I do,” she answered proudly.
“With the power vested in me, and before God and all these witnesses, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Matteo, you may kiss your bride.”
Matteo didn't wait for a second invitation. He pulled Abigail into his arms, dipping her slightly backward as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate, breathtaking kiss that brought the entire audience to their feet in thunderous applause and cheering.
From the front row, little Leo clapped his tiny hands together enthusiastically, laughing out loud as confetti canons exploded overhead, showering the newlyweds in a glittering cascade of white rose petals and gold dust.

The past was gone. The enemies were vanquished. The shadows had faded completely beneath the warmth of a love that nothing in this world could ever break.
Holding his wife in one arm and lifting his son into the other, Matteo Romano smiled into the setting sun, stepping forward into their bright, beautiful, unbreakable forever.
