Chapter 3 - The Underworld Syndicate War at the Skyscraper Penthouse, the Eradication of the Rival Hit Squad, and the Mafia Boss’s Ultimate, Triumphant Surrender to His True QueenThe forty-second-floor penthouse office transformed into a battleground in less than thirty seconds.

Darius didn't panic. The cold, ruthless mafia boss took over completely, his dark eyes flashing with lethal fury. He shoved Mireia behind the heavy mahogany executive desk, drawing a heavy-caliber, suppressed SIG Sauer from his shoulder holster with lightning speed.
“Stay down,” Darius commanded, his voice ringing with absolute, unshakeable authority. “Do not look over this desk, do not move, and do not make a sound.”
“Darius, your men—!” Mireia gasped, clutching her hands against her chest as the muffled sound of gunfire echoed from the private elevator foyer outside.
“My men are handling the breach,” Darius interrupted, pressing a master lockdown button that triggered reinforced steel security shutters to slide down over the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. “And I am going to handle the garbage.”
The private elevator doors chimed.
Ding.
Heavy, tactical boots hammered against the gray carpet as four heavily armed operatives from Viktor Vane’s hit squad poured into the penthouse office, assault rifles raised.
Thomas and two surviving Villano enforcers engaged them immediately in a fierce, deafening firefight across the open-plan floor. Shards of glass shattered from decorative partitions, and bullet holes shredded the minimalist white walls.
Darius moved with the terrifying, calculated grace of an apex predator. Stepping out from the shadow of the executive desk, he engaged the two remaining intruders who had flanked the security team.
Bang! Bang!
Two precise, merciless shots dropped the operatives instantly.
Within four minutes, the penthouse was secure. The smoke of spent shell casings drifted toward the ceiling ventilation units. Three of Vane’s men lay motionless on the floor, while the surviving lead enforcer was slammed violently against a marble pillar by Thomas, his weapon confiscated.
Darius lowered his sidearm, his chest rising and falling beneath his tailored vest, his face carved entirely from granite.
He walked over to the executive desk, extended a hand downward, and helped Mireia to her feet.
“Are you hurt?” Darius asked, his deep baritone carrying a raw, urgent vulnerability that he hid from the rest of the world.
“I’m... I’m fine,” Mireia whispered, trembling slightly as she looked at the carnage around them. “Darius, what is happening? Who were those men?”
“Competitors who forgot their place in this city,” Darius stated coldly. He turned his attention toward the captured enforcer pinned against the pillar. “Tell Viktor Vane that his cargo shipments across the entire Great Lakes region are now forfeit. And if he ever sends a message into my building again, I won't just take his docks—I’ll take his head.”
The enforcer choked out a terrified nod before Thomas hauled him away toward the secure detention cells in the basement.
The penthouse grew dead silent, save for the hum of the air filtration systems clearing the smoke.
Darius turned back to Mireia. He looked at her—not as a business partner, not as a designer for his mother’s foundation, but as the woman who had quietly anchored his soul through the most violent storm of his life.
“The collection is complete,” Darius said quietly, stepping closer until he stood inches away from her. “The foundation launch gala is in three weeks. The press will be there. Society will be there. Caleb will probably read about it in the financial papers.”
Mireia looked up into his striking, dark eyes, feeling the fierce, undeniable pull between them. All the caution, all the defensive armor she had built around her heart after years of emotional starvation under Caleb’s thumb, simply melted away in his presence.
“And what role do I play at this gala, Mr. Villano?” Mireia asked softly, a faint, challenging smile touching her lips. “Am I just the lead artisan?”
Darius reached into his breast pocket. He didn't pull out a contract. He pulled out a small, exquisite velvet ring box.
He flipped it open.
Resting inside was not a corporate commission agreement, but a breathtaking, custom-designed diamond ring surrounded by a delicate silver flame and crescent—crafted with the exact precision of her maker’s mark.
“You play the role of my fiancée,” Darius murmured, his voice dropping into a husky, hypnotic register that made the world outside stop spinning. “A real fiancée. One I intend to keep for the rest of my life. If you’ll have me.”
Tears hot and unbidden spilled over Mireia’s eyelashes. For years, she had believed love was something she had to earn through compromise and self-diminishment. Now, the most feared mafia boss in the city was kneeling before her, offering her an empire built on absolute respect, fierce protection, and unconditional devotion.
She let out a soft, brilliant laugh, extending her left hand.
“Only if I get final approval on all future design contracts, Mr. Villano,” she teased gently.

Darius slid the ring onto her finger—a perfect fit—and pulled her into his arms, capturing her lips in a deep, fierce, undeniable kiss that sealed their reign over the city forever.
The broken engagement was a distant memory, the underworld enemies were buried in ash, and as the underworld king held his true queen against his heart, their unbreakable dynasty finally found its glorious beginning.
