Chapter 3

The heavy iron door swung open with a hollow, echoing clank.
Matteo Reichi walked into the room. He didn't wear a tuxedo tonight; he wore a tactical black combat vest over a dark button-down shirt, his sleeves rolled up to reveal thick, scarred forearms. His slate-grey eyes were devoid of any human warmth, radiating an aura of cold, merciless death that made the captured syndicate bosses shrink back into their chairs.
Viktor Vance forced a nervous, shaky laugh, trying to mask his terror. “Reichi... you’re making a mistake. It was just business! A territorial dispute over the docks—!”
“Business?” Matteo interrupted, his voice dropping into a register so chillingly quiet that the temperature in the room seemed to plummet. He walked up to Viktor, grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, and slammed his head forward against the steel table with bone-crushing force. “You ambushed my family on a public highway. You put bullets through a car where my eight-year-old son was sleeping. And you nearly took the life of the woman I love.”
Viktor choked for air, blood trickling from his split lip. “We... we surrender! Take the North Side! Take all our shipping routes! Just... spare our lives!”
“Your life ended the moment you ordered that hit,” Matteo stated, his voice absolute and unyielding. He stepped back, signaling to Stefano Greco and a dozen elite enforcers waiting in the shadows. “Pack them onto a container ship heading for international waters. Strip them of their assets, their names, and their weapons, and drop them in the middle of the Pacific with no way back. If any of them ever set foot in North America again, feed them to the river.”
Within forty-eight hours, the North Side syndicate was completely eradicated. Their safehouses were seized, their drug routes were dismantled, and their leaders were banished to the ends of the earth. The New York underworld fell into a profound, unbreakable silence under the undisputed, terrifying rule of Don Matteo Reichi. But this time, the king didn't rule alone.
Three months after the highway ambush, the sprawling gardens of the Reichi estate were filled with brilliant sunlight, blooming tulips, and the happy laughter of children playing on the lawn.
Inside the grand sunroom, Elena stood before a tall mirror, wearing a breathtaking, elegant ivory lace dress. The small graze on her shoulder from the highway shootout had long since healed into an invisible memory, replaced by a radiant, glowing happiness.
The heavy double doors opened softly, and Matteo walked in. He wore a sharp, bespoke black suit, looking every bit the powerful mafia boss, but his eyes softened instantly when they locked onto her reflection.
He walked up behind her, wrapping his strong, warm arms around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.
“You take my breath away, Elena,” Matteo murmured softly against her ear, his deep baritone carrying an overwhelming wave of unconditional love.
Elena turned in his embrace, looping her arms around his neck, looking up into his slate-grey eyes with a bright, triumphant smile. “You clean up pretty well yourself, Mr. Reichi.”
Down on the lawn below, eight-year-old Leo raced across the grass with a brand-new, perfectly constructed cardboard rocket, cheering as it soared through the air, shouting for his father to come join him.
Matteo smiled, pressing a tender, lingering kiss to Elena’s lips.

“Come on, my love,” Matteo whispered, taking her hand securely in his. “Our son is waiting for us.”
The shadows of the syndicate wars were gone forever, replaced by a brilliant, sun-drenched horizon. The mafia boss had found his queen, the shy nanny had found her sanctuary, and together, they built a family that could never be broken.
