Chapter 3 - The Ultimate Reckoning, the Fall of Adrien Cole, and the Underworld King’s Final Unbreakable VowThe glass-walled conservatory of Luca Moretti’s waterfront estate overlooked a gray, churning Atlantic Ocean. Rain hammered against the reinforced panes, blurring the horizon into a seamless wall of silver and slate.

Adrien Cole sat stiffly in an antique velvet armchair in the center of the room, looking around the palatial estate with an expression of frantic, poorly concealed terror. Behind him stood two of Luca’s most imposing enforcers, their arms crossed over their broad chests.

When the heavy double doors opened, Adrien jumped to his feet, smoothing his charcoal coat with trembling hands.

“Mr. Moretti,” Adrien forced a strained, nervous smile as Luca walked into the room. “This... this must be some terrible misunderstanding. My assistant said there was an urgent corporate audit, but—!”

His voice cut off instantly as Evelyn stepped out from the shadows behind Luca.

She wore a sharp, tailored obsidian dress, her posture unyielding, her eyes cold as winter ice.

Adrien stared at her, color draining completely from his face. “Evelyn? What is the meaning of this? Why are you here with—?”

“Stop talking, Adrien,” Evelyn said, her voice slicing through the room with absolute authority. “You’re embarrassing yourself. And more importantly, you’re wasting Mr. Moretti’s time.”

Luca walked over to the mahogany desk, picking up a thick manila folder containing the complete archive of Adrien’s forgeries, his fake marriage license, and the illegal Moretti seal copies. He dropped it onto the glass coffee table right in front of Adrien.

Adrien looked down at the folder. He opened it. The first page stared back at him—the forged signature, the fraudulent asset transfer agreement, the fake Moretti endorsement.

His knees buckled. He dropped back down into the velvet armchair, gasping for air as his hands shook uncontrollably.

“I can explain,” Adrien choked out, looking frantically between Luca and Evelyn. “It was just a corporate restructuring! I-I was going to share the profits with her! It was a business arrangement—!”

“It was a federal felony,” Luca interrupted smoothly, his voice dropping into a register of absolute, freezing death. He leaned against the edge of the desk, crossing his arms. “You forged documents, you operated an unauthorized laundering channel using a counterfeit of my family’s crest, and you attempted to rob a woman under the false pretense of a marriage that never legally existed.”

“Please!” Adrien wept, sliding out of the chair onto his knees on the Persian rug, clutching at the hem of Luca’s trousers. “Mr. Moretti, don't kill me! Take all my money! Take my company! Just let me walk away—!”

“I don't kill men who collapse this easily,” Luca said with quiet disgust, stepping back out of Adrien’s reach. “It lacks aesthetic value. But your company, your assets, your bank accounts, and your freedom? Those belong to the state now. And to Miss Hart.”

At a subtle nod from Luca, the two enforcers hauled Adrien up by his arms, dragging him kicking and screaming out of the conservatory toward the service exit, where federal marshals hired by Moretti’s legal team were already waiting to haul him away to a maximum-security prison.

The heavy doors clicked shut, plunging the conservatory into a profound, echoing silence.

Evelyn stood motionless by the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The multi-month nightmare—the fake ring, the stolen inheritance, the cruel betrayal with her sister—was finally over. She had stared the underworld in the eye, and instead of consuming her, she had weaponized it to shatter her enemy.

Footsteps approached softly across the marble floor.

Luca Moretti stopped beside her, looking out at the churning ocean.

“You handled yourself remarkably well today, Miss Hart,” Luca noted, his deep voice carrying a rare note of genuine respect. “Most people would have broken down or run. You came to the source.”

“When someone tries to erase you,” Evelyn replied quietly, turning her head to meet his dark, piercing gaze, “you don't hide in the corner. You take back the pen.”

A slow, breathtaking smile curved Luca’s lips—a look of absolute, captivating devotion that he rarely offered to the rest of the world.

“The Hart Family Holdings shares have already been legally restored to your sole name,” Luca informed her, sliding a clean, unblemished leather folder across the table toward her. “And as for the shell corporation Adrien created... I’ve repurposed it. It now operates as a legitimate maritime trust, fully protected by Moretti assets. And it requires a managing director.”

Evelyn stared at the folder, stunned. “You’re offering me a position?”

“I’m offering you a partnership,” Luca corrected, stepping closer until she could feel the heat radiating from his frame. His hand reached out, gently brushing against her fingers. “A woman who knows how to spot a counterfeit life deserves an empire built entirely on truth.”

Evelyn looked up into the striking, powerful face of the mafia don who had rewritten her entire world. The phantom ring was gone, replaced by a future entirely of her own design.

She let out a soft, triumphant laugh, placing her hand over his warm palm.

“I accept, Mr. Moretti,” Evelyn whispered, sealing their partnership with a fierce, unwavering gaze. “Though I’m warning you right now—I audit everything.”

Luca let out a rich, dark laugh, pulling her gently against his solid chest and capturing her lips in a deep, undeniable kiss as the storm outside cleared to reveal a brilliant, golden horizon.
