Chapter 2

Working late into the night in Adrian’s private, heavily encrypted home office, I accessed a treasure trove of financial databases through Adrian’s underground security network. It took me less than forty-eight hours to map out the entire Blake family financial structure.
The results were staggering.
Ethan Blake’s real estate development firm was currently overleveraged by forty million dollars, floating entirely on fraudulent municipal construction bids, kickbacks, and secret loans backed by Dr. Michael Lewis’s medical malpractice settlement funds. Furthermore, Dr. Lewis had been systematically padding his hospital’s Medicare claims and accepting massive cash kickbacks from pharmaceutical distributors—all funneled through a quiet Swiss bank account registered under a dummy corporation.
On a crisp Thursday morning, Adrian and I executed Phase One of our plan.
Ethan Blake sat in his corner office on the fortieth floor of downtown Chicago’s premier commercial tower, sipping espresso and reviewing project bids, blissfully unaware that his world was about to implode. The heavy oak doors of his office didn’t just open—they swung wide with a sharp, echoing crash as two of Adrian’s most intimidating enforcers marched inside, flanked by federal banking inspectors and state medical board investigators.
Ethan jumped to his feet, knocking his coffee mug over onto his pristine desk. “What is the meaning of this?! Who the hell are you? Security!”
“Security isn't coming, Mr. Blake,” a smooth, chilling baritone echoed from the doorway.
Adrian stepped into the office. He wore a bespoke charcoal suit, his shoulders broad and imposing, his eyes locked onto Ethan with the absolute disdain one might reserve for a cockroach crawling across a kitchen floor. Behind him walked me, wearing a sharp navy blazer, carrying a thick leather portfolio.
Ethan’s face drained of all color. He stared at me in absolute, paralyzing horror. “Emily...? What is she doing here? What is happening?”
“Sit down, Ethan,” Adrian commanded, his voice dropping into a register of lethal authority that forced Ethan to collapse back into his ergonomic chair.
I stepped forward, placing the thick leather portfolio squarely in the center of Ethan’s desk and opening it to the first tab. “You and your mother thought you could ruin my life with a fake medical diagnosis and a cruel dismissal three years ago,” I said, my voice steady, ringing with absolute power. “You thought I’d crawl away into the dark and never bother you again. But you made one critical error, Ethan.”
“What... what are you talking about?” Ethan stammered, sweating profusely as he looked at the financial schedules detailing his company's impending bankruptcy.
“You underestimated who I was,” I replied coldly. “You thought I was just a frightened girl. Instead, you handed me the exact motivation I needed to tear your entire family dynasty down to the studs.”
Adrian leaned against the edge of the desk, crossing his arms over his chest. “My financial division acquired the primary debt on your corporate portfolio yesterday morning, Ethan. By noon today, your bank will call your loans. By tomorrow, your company will be liquidated in bankruptcy court. And your uncle, Dr. Michael Lewis?”
Adrian smiled—a terrifying, predatory smile that made Ethan shrink back into his chair.
“Federal marshals arrested him at his hospital ten minutes ago for medical fraud, perjury, and falsifying patient records. He’s looking at twenty years in a federal penitentiary. And every penny of his hidden bank accounts has been seized under civil forfeiture laws.”
Ethan buried his face in his trembling hands, finally realizing the catastrophic reality of his actions. The smug, arrogant heir to the Blake family fortune was gone, replaced by a broken man facing total financial and social ruin.

“Please... Emily... have mercy,” Ethan wept, looking up at me with pleading eyes. “My mother... she made me do it! She orchestrated the whole thing!”
“Save your breath for the bankruptcy judge,” Adrian said smoothly, taking my hand in his strong, warm grip. “Come on, Emily. We have nurseries to design, and trash to take out.”
