Chapter 5 - The Grand Sunset And Happily Ever AfterFive years later.

The sprawling Hamptons estate buzzed with joyous laughter, clinking champagne glasses, and the joyful patter of running feet across manicured green lawns. Strings of warm fairy lights twinkled overhead as dusk painted the Atlantic sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold.

Today was a dual celebration: my foundation's five-year anniversary of empowering single mothers and victims of domestic abuse, and my thirtieth birthday. But more than anything, it was a celebration of survival, redemption, and absolute joy.

I stood on the wide wooden veranda in a flowing emerald-silk gown, watching five-year-old Lily chase a golden retriever across the lawn with infectious, uncontainable giggles. She had inherited my determination and my brothers' fearless spirit.

"Penny for your thoughts, gorgeous," a warm, rich voice whispered beside me.

I turned with a smile as Julian Vance—no relation to my ex-husband, thank goodness—stepped up beside me, handing me a flute of sparkling cider. Julian was a renowned pediatric surgeon whom I had met two years ago when Lily had broken her wrist on a school playground. Unlike my ex, Julian was kind, grounded, fiercely loyal, and adored both Lily and me with a depth of love I never knew existed.

"Just thinking about how incredible life is," I murmured, leaning my head against his shoulder as he wrapped a strong arm around my waist.

Across the lawn, Alexander, Gabriel, and Nicholas were deep in an animated debate over the barbecue grill, completely butchering the steaks while laughing like schoolboys. They had finally learned how to relax, knowing that our family was whole, unbreakable, and entirely safe.

My phone chimed softly in my pocket. I pulled it out to see a brief text message from an unknown number—a prison facility upstate where Daniel was serving his sentence. I didn't even bother opening it. I simply archived the message, blocked the number, and dropped the phone back into my clutch. The past had no power here anymore. The ghosts of St. Catherine's were buried deep in the dark where they belonged.

"Mama! Look how fast I can run!" Lily shouted, sprinting toward us with her arms outstretched like a little airplane.

Julian and I laughed as we knelt down, catching her in a joint embrace and lifting her up into the air as she squealed with delight.

The sunset washed over us in a brilliant, triumphant blaze of color, illuminating a future filled with boundless love, peace, and unwavering strength. I had lost a husband, but I had found my true self, my unbreakable family, and a love that would last for eternity.
