Chapter 2 - The Shocking DNA Truth and the Collapse of the Moretti EmpireThe silence in the hospital room stretched on for an eternity, thick enough to suffocate everyone present.

Vincent’s gaze flicked back and forth between the pristine medical document in my hand and his mother’s trembling, bloodless face. The raw realization was hitting him like a physical blow. He had divorced his wife under false pretenses, driven away by his mother’s calculated deception and his own blind arrogance.
“Mother,” Vincent’s voice was barely a growl, stripped of all warmth and authority. “Tell me she’s lying. Tell me you didn’t touch my wife’s personal belongings the day she left.”
Margaret swallowed hard, her haughty demeanor crumbling into desperation.
“Vincent, darling, think logically!” she stammered, stepping forward and reaching out a shaking hand. “That woman is an opportunist! She knew our standing, she knew about the wedding, she probably conceived this child with someone else just to ruin your happiness with Sophia!”
Sophia chimed in, her voice shrill with panic.
“She’s right, Vincent! Are you really going to let a manipulative gold-digger derail our wedding over a piece of paper she probably printed out yesterday? Look at her! She’s playing you!”
I didn’t raise my voice. I didn’t need to scream or hurl insults. I simply pulled a second document from the brown envelope—a certified, legally binding paternity and DNA testing confirmation report issued by Chicago’s premier genetic lab less than twelve hours after my daughter's birth.
I handed the document directly to Vincent.
His hands shook as he took the paper. His eyes scanned the bold black letters of the genetic breakdown, confirming match percentages, chromosomal markers, and parental lineage.
Father: Vincent Moretti. Probability of paternity: 99.999%.
The paper slipped from Vincent’s fingers, fluttering softly to the linoleum floor.
He stared at me, his eyes wide, filled with a cocktail of agonizing regret, shock, and a terrifying rage directed entirely at his mother.
“You knew,” Vincent whispered, his voice cracking as he looked at Margaret. “You knew she was pregnant, and you drove her out anyway. You lied to me. You destroyed my family.”
“I did it for you!” Margaret shrieked, losing her composure entirely as hospital staff outside the door began murmuring at the commotion. “She wasn’t of our class! Sophia is our own kind! You were meant to marry into power, not waste your life on a waitress from Queens!”
“Shut up!” Vincent roared, the sound echoing down the hospital corridor with such ferocity that both Margaret and Sophia recoiled in sheer terror.
He took a step toward me, his expression pleading, his hands outstretched in a desperate gesture.
“Emily… please. I didn’t know. If I had known about the baby, I swear to God I would never have let you leave. I would have protected you from her. Please… let me hold my daughter.”
I pulled my baby closer to my chest, shielding her instinctively.
“You lost that right nine months ago, Vincent,” I said, my voice cold and unyielding. “When you let your mother humiliate me, when you handed my engagement ring to Sophia, and when you threw me out like trash. You don’t get to play the devoted father now.”
Vincent staggered back as if I had struck him across the face.
Sophia grabbed his arm, her face twisted in rage and humiliation.
“Vincent, let’s go! If you stay here with this liar, our wedding is over!”
Vincent looked down at Sophia, his expression turning to ice.
“Our wedding is over, Sophia. Get out of my sight.”
May you like
Sophia gasped, her face turning crimson, before she turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, dragging a disgraced and weeping Margaret behind her.
Vincent was left standing alone in the center of the room, staring at the woman he had discarded and the daughter he never knew he had, realizing too late that his entire life had just imploded.
