Chapter 3: The Secret Vault and the Final Warning

Lorenzo’s hand reached out, trembling visibly, and picked up the black fountain pen.

His fingers were not steady. The ink shook against the paper as he scrawled his signature across the dotted line of the petition.

The scratch of metal against paper was almost too quiet to hear in the dead silence, yet Isabella felt the seismic vibration of that single stroke travel through her entire body.

Her ten-year marriage had officially ended right between an untouched anniversary cake and expensive roses meant for another woman.

She calmly gathered the legal documents, sliding them back into the leather envelope.

Before turning to walk out the door, she paused and looked at Lorenzo one final time.

“I chose our child’s name today, Lorenzo.”

His eyes dropped instinctively downward, locking onto the curve of her stomach.

She did not tell him the chosen name. She did not bother to tell him that she knew with absolute medical certainty they were having a healthy baby boy.

That vital truth still belonged exclusively to her.

“Goodbye, Lorenzo.”

She turned and walked down the hallway toward the elevator lobby.

Behind her, Lorenzo called out her name just once. It wasn't shouted as a command or an order. It was spoken softly, like a broken man who had finally understood that a person could truly be leaving forever even while standing only ten feet away.

The mirrored elevator doors slid shut smoothly, sealing him away in the past.

Isabella stood alone in the descending car, watching her reflection in the steel panel. The deep navy dress still fit her impeccably. The gold ribbon still caught the bright overhead lights.

Deep inside her, her son gave one strong, reassuring kick.

She pressed her warm palm firmly against her belly. “We’re leaving, sweetheart,” she whispered.

Yet, as the elevator dropped swiftly toward the ground floor, Isabella suddenly remembered the dark green gift box she had left sitting right beside Lorenzo’s untouched dinner plate back at the North Shore mansion.

And hidden deep beneath those tiny navy baby shoes and medical files rested the black flash drive—containing absolute proof that while Lorenzo was busy funding his mistress's luxury lifestyle, someone inside their inner circle had been systematically robbing the De Luca empire blind from the very inside.

The true war had only just begun.
