Chapter 6

As Elliot entered his first year of school,
new challenges arose,
ones that could not be solved in a boardroom.
He attended a prestigious private academy,
filled with the children of the elite,
where names carried heavy expectations.
Elliot was a kind and gentle boy,
who preferred drawing to sports,
and shared his mother's empathetic nature.
But kids can be cruel,
and rumors from the adult world,
often trickle down to the playground.
A boy in Elliot's class,
the son of a bitter former Blackwood executive,
started teasing Elliot about his mother's past.
He called Claire a maid,
repeating insults he had heard at home,
trying to make Elliot feel small.
Elliot came home quiet one afternoon,
his drawing pad untouched in his backpack,
and his eyes red from crying.
Claire noticed immediately,
sitting down beside him on the floor,
gently coaxing the truth out of him.
When Elliot finally told her what was said,
Claire felt a familiar, protective rage,
flaring up inside her chest.
Grant walked in,
catching the end of the conversation,
and his jaw tightened in anger.
He wanted to call the headmaster,
demand the boy be expelled,
and ruin the executive's career permanently.
But Claire stopped him,
reminding him that crushing their enemies,
would not teach their son how to be strong.
She knelt in front of Elliot,
wiping the tears from his cheeks,
and looked him directly in the eyes.
She told him she was proud of her past,
because hard work is never something to be ashamed of,
and that cleaning floors had bought his future.
She explained that people who mock honest work,
are usually empty inside,
and that Elliot's kindness was his greatest superpower.
The next day,
Claire volunteered at the school's career fair,
standing among doctors and lawyers,
and told her story to the entire class.
She spoke about resilience,
about building a foundation that saves lives,
and about the honor of earning your way.
The children listened in awe,
and the boy who had teased Elliot,
looked down at his shoes in deep shame.
When she finished,
Elliot ran up and hugged her tightly,
beaming with absolute pride,

and Grant watched from the back of the room,
knowing he had married the strongest woman in the world.
