Chapter 3 - Uncovering the Family Syndicate, the Hidden Ledger, and the Secret Alliance with Damián Roca

By sunrise, sleep was impossible. I sat at a heavy mahogany desk in Damián’s private study while a team of financial analysts and digital forensics experts—men who answered only to Damián—worked silently around the room, spilling coffee and reviewing encrypted hard drives. Damián poured a cup of fresh coffee and set it beside my hand. "Drink," he commanded gently, his demeanor entirely different from the terrifying underworld figure who had dismantled the police officers hours earlier. "You are safe here, Camila. But safety isn't enough. We need to dismantle Ofelia before she strikes again."
"Why are you helping me?" I asked, looking up into his steel-gray eyes. "You're Damián Roca. People in Guadalajara cross the street just to avoid breathing the same air as you. Why risk a war with the Ferreira family over a penniless widow and three little girls?" Damián pulled up a chair beside the desk, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. "Fourteen years ago, Ofelia Ferreira's husband pushed my younger brother out of a municipal contracting deal, driving him to ruin and eventual suicide," Damián said quietly, his voice laced with decades of cold, disciplined vengeance. "The Ferreira empire was built on stolen land, smuggled pharmaceuticals, and crushed lives, all masked behind their precious charitable foundation. I have been looking for the right key to unlock their fortress from the inside for years. You, Camila, are the key."

On the main monitor across the room, an analyst called out, "Boss, we've cracked the server backup we pulled from the foundation's main office last night." Digital files flooded the screen. Among them was an audio recording and a digitized master folder labeled *Project Inheritance*. It was a comprehensive blueprint documenting how Ofelia, working with corrupt accountants and a compromised notary public, systematically looted her own foundation while pinning the blame on me. Worse still, the files revealed that Ofelia had been planning to institutionalize my daughters under the pretext of 'unstable maternal environment' so she could gain complete control over Mateo's hidden trust fund—a fund Mateo had secretly set up for his daughters without his mother's knowledge before he died.
"She didn't just want to humiliate me," I whispered, horror washing over me. "She wanted to erase my girls entirely so she could keep Mateo's money." Damián placed a warm, heavy hand over my clenched fists. "She will never touch them, Camila. Today, we take the offensive. But we aren't going to the police. We are going straight to the annual board meeting of the Ferreira Foundation—where every powerful man, senator, and judge in Guadalajara will watch her kingdom burn."
