Chapter 2 - The Designer Trap And The Surveillance Footage That Exposes The Bride

By 8:00 AM, Marcus was standing in Eleanor’s expansive living room, his face dark with suppressed fury. He laid out a sleek tablet displaying the building’s closed-circuit security feeds. “It wasn’t a random break-in, Eleanor,” Marcus said grimly, tapping the screen. “Look at camera three in the private service corridor. At 3:15 AM, the service elevator opened using a master override code. Only the master property manager and the primary resident have those. Or someone who copied the master fob during the bridal party walkthrough two nights ago.”
Eleanor leaned forward, her bare head catching the morning sunlight pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Without her hair, her sharp cheekbones and piercing blue eyes gave her the appearance of an aristocratic warrior queen. “And who stepped out of that elevator, Marcus?” she asked softly.
Marcus zoomed in on the grainy footage. A tall figure wearing an oversized black hoodie and a face mask stepped out, carrying a heavy leather duffel bag. As the figure approached Eleanor’s double doors, they paused, pulled down the mask for a fraction of a second to check their phone, and looked directly into a hallway camera with a smirk. It was Tyler, Sabrina’s personal stylist and right-hand man. The footage clearly showed him swiping a cloned fob, entering Eleanor’s apartment using a keycode, and emerging forty-five minutes later looking extremely pleased with himself.
“He didn’t act alone,” Marcus added, flipping to another clip. “Look at the lobby cameras at the exact same timestamp. Miss Sabrina herself was waiting in a rented white Escalade parked right outside the service bay, texting away on her phone. They coordinated the whole thing. It was meant to be a live-stream prank or a malicious sabotage to ensure you wouldn’t attend the wedding out of embarrassment.”
Eleanor let out a cold, humorless laugh. “They think I’m some fragile grandma who hides in the dark when things go wrong. They forgot who bought Michael his first million-dollar trust fund and who taught him how to read a balance sheet.” She stood up, smoothing down her silk robe. “Marcus, I want copies of all these files downloaded to three separate encrypted flash drives. One for my lawyer, one for me, and one as a little insurance policy for the reception.”
“Consider it done,” Marcus replied, pocketing his tablet. “What’s your next move? Do you want me to have them arrested for breaking and entering and unlawful drugging right now?”
“No,” Eleanor said, her eyes flashing with a dangerous light. “An arrest is too quick, too quiet, and it keeps them out of the public eye. Sabrina wants a high-society spectacle? I’ll give her a spectacle she will never, ever forget. Let them walk down that aisle thinking they’ve won. The trap isn’t sprung until the vows are exchanged.”
Meanwhile, across town at the luxury boutique hotel where the bridal party was staying, Sabrina was sipping a mimosa in a plush white bathrobe, surrounded by her bridesmaids. Her phone buzzed on the coffee table. It was a text from Tyler with a blurry photo of a pair of silver hair clippings on a tile floor and a single caption: *Mission complete. The old bat is bald as a cue ball. She’ll never show her face in public today.* Sabrina beamed, taking a long sip of her drink. She felt an overwhelming rush of smug satisfaction. For two years, Eleanor had subtly undermined Sabrina’s lavish, over-budget wedding plans, refusing to fork over her personal vintage diamond heirloom tiara and constantly suggesting that Sabrina sign a prenuptial agreement to protect Michael’s assets. To Sabrina, Eleanor was an obstacle—a relic of the past that needed to be publicly humiliated and cast aside so she could take full control of the Whitmore estate.
“Everything okay, babe?” Michael asked, walking into the suite in a crisp button-down shirt, looking slightly stressed about the seating arrangements and the soaring costs of the venue.

“Everything is perfect, my love,” Sabrina purred, wrapping her arms around his neck and fluttering her eyelashes. “Today is going to be the most magical day of our lives. Nothing can possibly ruin it.”
Michael smiled, kissing her forehead, completely oblivious to the ticking time bomb waiting in his mother’s penthouse. He had tried calling his mother twice that morning, but Eleanor’s phone was set to do-not-disturb while she and Marcus finalized their operational plan. Michael figured she was just getting an early start at the spa or coordinating with the florist. Little did he know, his mother was preparing for an entrance that would shake the foundations of elite society.
