Chapter 4 - The Altar Showdown And The Truth Revealed To Four Hundred Elite Guests

The music ground to an awkward, stuttering halt. The string quartet stopped playing as a heavy, suffocating silence fell over the four hundred elite guests packed into the grand ballroom. All eyes darted between Michael, Sabrina, and the striking, bald figure of Eleanor Whitmore sitting calmly in the front row.

Sabrina recovered first, her face flushing with panic and rage. She marched the rest of the way down the aisle, practically shoved her father aside, and grabbed Michael’s arm. “Michael, don’t listen to her!” Sabrina hissed, her voice cracking slightly under pressure. “She’s just trying to steal our spotlight! She always has to make everything about herself! Look at her, she probably did it for attention or some bizarre sympathy stunt to ruin our special day!”

Michael looked torn, his eyes darting between his weeping, frantic bride and his fiercely composed mother. He stepped off the altar platform and walked down the steps toward Eleanor. “Mom, please tell me what’s going on,” Michael pleaded, his voice trembling. “Did you... did you lose your hair because of a medical issue? Why didn’t you tell me? We can stop the ceremony right now—”

Eleanor slowly removed her black sunglasses, folding them neatly and placing them in her lap. She looked up at her son with infinite tenderness, yet her voice carried across the silent ballroom like a chilling bell. “I didn’t lose my hair to illness, Michael,” Eleanor said clearly, her tone echoing off the marble pillars. “Someone made the executive decision to give me a very close shave while I was fast asleep in my own bed this morning.”

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd. Whispers erupted from the back rows.

“What are you talking about?” Michael stammered, his face pale. “Who could possibly get into your penthouse? You have top-tier security!”

“That is an excellent question, my boy,” Eleanor replied, standing up with effortless grace. She towered over Sabrina, who was now trembling violently near the altar. “Fortunately, modern technology has wonderful answers. Marcus, if you please.”

At the back of the room, Marcus pressed a button on his remote console. Instantly, the massive projection screens behind the altar—which were supposed to display a slideshow of baby pictures—flashed black. Then, crystal-clear high-definition surveillance footage began to play for the entire room to see.

The screen showed the service elevator at 3:15 AM. It showed Tyler, Sabrina’s personal celebrity stylist, stepping out with a duffel bag and using a cloned master fob to enter Eleanor’s private residence. It showed him emerging forty-five minutes later, grinning ear to ear. Then, the screen split to show the lobby camera feed at the exact same minute: Sabrina sitting in a rented white Escalade parked in the service bay, staring intently at her phone, coordinating the entire operation.

The ballroom erupted into absolute chaos. Gasps, shrieks of disbelief, and outraged murmurs bounced off the crystal chandeliers. Several prominent society board members dropped their champagne flutes, watching the footage in utter shock.

Sabrina’s face turned the color of chalk. She let out a choked, desperate sound. “It’s fake! It’s deepfake AI generated by her lawyers!” she shrieked, pointing a shaking finger at Eleanor. “She hates me! She edited this to destroy our wedding! Michael, you can’t believe this monster!”

Michael stood frozen, staring up at the giant screen, then down at Sabrina. He had seen Sabrina’s text messages before. He recognized the white Escalade because he had rented it for her bridal party himself. The pieces clicked together in his mind with devastating clarity.

“You did this?” Michael whispered, looking at Sabrina as if he were seeing a stranger for the first time. “You broke into my mother’s home and shaved her head while she slept? Are you insane?”
