Chapter 3 - The Dragon Awakens, the Syndicate Trembles, and the Unforgiving Wrath of Vincent CostaAs the assassin's trembling fingers brushed against the cold steel of the pistol grip, Vincent moved with terrifying, explosive speed. He surged upward from the bed, his right hand gripping the intruder's wrist with the crushing force of a hydraulic press.

The assassin gasped in sheer horror, looking up into eyes blazing with cold, lethal fury. "You..." the man choked out, recognizing the feared mob boss he had been hired to quietly assassinate.

"End of the line," Vincent whispered, his voice deep, raspy, and dripping with absolute menace.

With a sharp, brutal twist of his wrist, Vincent heard the satisfying snap of bone as the assassin's forearm broke backward. The pistol clattered harmlessly to the floor. Before the man could scream, Vincent delivered a devastating palm strike to his throat, followed by a sweeping kick that sent the intruder crashing headfirst into the mahogany dresser, knocking him out cold.

The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence, broken only by the crackle of the storm outside and Vincent's own heavy breathing. He stood tall, his muscles burning from days of stiffness, but his mind sharper and deadlier than ever. He looked down at Tessa, who lay motionless beside the fallen medical cart, blood staining her cheek.

Kneeling beside her, Vincent gently checked her pulse. It was steady. She was alive, just knocked out from the brutal impact against the wall. A rare, protective warmth flickered in Vincent's dark eyes. He scooped her up effortlessly into his arms, carrying her to the plush velvet sofa in the corner of the suite, covering her with a warm cashmere blanket.

Moments later, the heavy oak door blew open as Dr. Matteo rushed into the room, followed by four heavily armed senior capos drawn by the gunshot. They froze instantly, their jaws dropping in utter disbelief as they saw the legendary Vincent Costa standing tall in the center of the room, surrounded by wreckage, with an unconscious assassin bleeding on the floor.

"Boss?!" Matteo stammered, dropping his medical bag. "You're... you're awake?"

"Save the theatrics, Matteo," Vincent said, his voice cold enough to freeze blood. He walked over to his mahogany desk, unlocked a secure steel drawer, and picked up his encrypted satellite phone. "Lock down every exit on the estate. Nobody leaves. Not a single car, not a single soul. And summon Lorenzo and Camila to the main study immediately. Tell them a crisis has occurred."

Within ten minutes, the grand mahogany-paneled study was packed with tension. Camila walked in wearing a silk robe, her face plastered with a manufactured look of profound grief, closely followed by Lorenzo, who looked nervously around the room.

"Vincent! Oh, thank God, they said you woke up—" Camila rushed forward, her arms outstretched for an embrace.

"Stop right there," Vincent commanded.

His voice was so chillingly absolute that Camila stopped dead in her tracks, her manicured hands trembling. She looked up and saw Vincent sitting behind his massive oak desk, flanked by four armed capos and Matteo. There was no sign of weakness in his posture. His gaze was fixed on her with the unblinking stare of an apex predator.

"Vincent, my love, what is the meaning of this?" Camila forced a fragile, nervous smile. "We've been so worried sick about you..."

"Cut the act, Camila," Vincent interrupted, tossing a heavy leather-bound ledger and a secure recording device onto the center of the desk. "The game is over. I heard every word you and Lorenzo exchanged in my medical suite two nights ago. Selling off my docks to the Romanos, dividing my offshore accounts, and waiting for me to die so you could rule over the ashes."

Color drained entirely from Camila's face. She stumbled backward, bumping into Lorenzo, whose knees were visibly shaking.

"Boss, it's a misunderstanding!" Lorenzo blurted out, raising his hands in sheer panic. "She manipulated me! Camila put me up to it—!"

"Shut your mouth, you spineless rat," Camila hissed, turning on Lorenzo with venomous fury before pivoting back to Vincent, her tears instantly turning to bitter malice. "Fine! You caught us! But what do you expect, Vincent? You treat everyone around you like pawns on a chessboard! You built an empire on blood and fear, and you thought people would just bow down forever?"

Vincent slowly stood up from his chair, buttoning his custom suit jacket. He walked around the desk, stopping just inches from Camila. He didn't raise his voice; he didn't need to.

"My empire was built on loyalty, discipline, and rules," Vincent said softly. "Rules that you both chose to break. Lorenzo, for treason against your blood oath, your street operations are seized, and your name is stricken from the syndicate forever. Take him to the basement," Vincent nodded to the capos.

Two burly guards grabbed a screaming Lorenzo by the shoulders, dragging him out of the room as he begged for mercy.

Camila stared at Vincent with undisguised hatred. "And what about me? You going to kill me in cold blood, Vincent? Go ahead. Make me a martyr."

"Kill you?" Vincent let out a cold, humorless chuckle. "Death is too easy for you, Camila. No. Stripped of every cent, every diamond, every offshore account, and every corporate share tied to my name, you are going to walk out the front gates of this estate tonight with nothing more than the clothes on your back. If you ever set foot in New York again, I won't just kill you—I will erase your entire existence."

Trembling with rage and humiliation, Camila realized she had lost everything. Without a word, she turned and fled the study, her expensive silk robe sweeping behind her like the shroud of a dead queen.

Vincent turned back to Matteo, his expression softening just a fraction. "How is the girl?"

"Tessa? She's resting in the guest wing," Matteo reported respectfully. "Concussion, split lip, bruised ribs. But she'll recover. Boss... what are we going to do with her? She knows everything."

Vincent walked over to the grand arched window, looking out over the rain-slicked gardens of his vast estate. For the first time in his life, he wasn't thinking about ledgers, territories, or blood debts. He was thinking about a brave kitchen maid who had risked her life to protect a tyrant who didn't even know her name.

"We are going to make sure she never has to clean another floor again," Vincent said quietly.
