Chapter 4 - The Betrayal UnmaskedThe atmosphere inside the private conference room on the top floor of Bellevue Hospital was suffocatingly tense.

Four of Marco Moretti's most senior, high-ranking syndicate capos stood around a long wooden table, their faces dark with anger. Standing at the head of the room was Dominic, reviewing live tactical feeds on a secure tablet.

The heavy double doors swept open, and Marco Moretti stepped into the room.

He had changed out of his soaked clothes into a sharp black suit. The tears were gone from his eyes, replaced by an arctic, murderous resolve that terrified even his veteran lieutenants.

"Don Marco," senior capo Dominick Rossi spoke up, stepping forward. "We have secured the perimeter around the hospital. Three additional tactical squads are guarding Mrs. Moretti's floor. No one enters without your personal biometric code."

"Where is Sophia Reynolds?" Marco asked, his voice dropping into a razor-sharp, lethal whisper.

"Our surveillance team tracked her phone after she left your penthouse," Dominic reported, pulling up a map on the central monitor. "She didn't return to her father's estate. She drove directly to a private airstrip in Teterboro, New Jersey. A private charter jet registered to Reynolds Logistics is currently sitting on the tarmac preparing for takeoff to London."

Marco’s dark eyes narrowed into slits. "And her father, Marcus Reynolds?"

"Marcus Reynolds is currently inside the VIP hangar at Teterboro," Dominic added. "He called an emergency meeting with his European banking partners twenty minutes ago. They are liquidating seventy million dollars in joint Moretti-Reynolds shipping assets."

The pieces of the massive, treacherous puzzle were now fully exposed.

Sophia Reynolds hadn't just been a mistress or an arrogant corporate daughter trying to secure a political marriage. She was an active, highly trained operational asset planted by her father to infiltrate Marco's personal life, monitor his schedule, and identify his single greatest vulnerability: his wife, Elena.

Marcus Reynolds knew that if he attempted a direct military strike against Marco Moretti, the entire Chicago and New York syndicates would unite to crush his family. But if he crippled Marco emotionally by orchestrating the quiet, brutal execution of his beloved wife, Marco would lose control, act recklessly, and walk directly into an ambush—allowing Reynolds to seize control of the multi-billion-dollar shipping port network.

And Sophia had personally walked up to Elena's crushed car in the rain to verify that the job was done.

"Assemble the inner guard, Dominic," Marco commanded, his voice ringing across the silent room like a death sentence. "We are going to Teterboro."

"Don Marco, wait!" senior capo Dominick Rossi urged, stepping forward with raised hands. "Teterboro Airport is heavily guarded by private security mercenaries hired by Reynolds! If we initiate a full-scale assault on an international airport, the federal authorities will issue instant racketeering indictments against the entire Moretti board!"

Marco slowly turned his head to glare at Rossi. He took two slow steps forward, pulling his platinum-plated handgun from his shoulder holster, pressing the cold steel barrel directly against Rossi's forehead.

The entire room went dead silent. Nobody dared to breathe.

"My wife is lying in a trauma room three floors down with fractured bones because I let those snakes near my family," Marco whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute, unhinged fury. "I don't give a damn about federal indictments. I don't give a damn about shipping ports. I am going to tear Marcus Reynolds and his daughter apart with my bare hands."

Rossi swallowed hard, his eyes wide with fear, and gave a rapid nod. "Understood, Don Marco. We ride with you."

Marco lowered his weapon, clicking the safety back on. "Dominic. Bring the heavy tactical units. Nobody leaves that hangar alive."

Twenty minutes later, a motorcade of six black armored SUVs tore down the rain-slicked highway toward New Jersey, their engines roaring like hunting beasts in the dark.

Inside the lead vehicle, Marco sat in the rear seat, holding his wife's crushed smartphone in his hands. He opened the photo gallery, staring down at a picture taken two years ago on a quiet beach in Maine—Elena laughing in the summer sun, her dark hair blowing in the wind, holding a paintbrush in her hand.

He had promised to protect her from the dark world he ruled. He had lied to himself that he could keep his bloody syndicate life completely separate from her peaceful, artistic soul.

Now, as the dark silhouette of the Teterboro private airport hangars appeared through the pouring rain ahead, Marco Moretti made a silent, sacred vow to the night sky:

He would erase every single enemy who had ever dared to bring fear into his wife's eyes, or he would die trying.
