The Mask of Deception / Chapter 5 / 10 2

Chapter 5

The heavy front doors opened,

and armed officers rushed inside.

They swept through the massive hall,

shouting loud and clear commands.

Adrian walked down the grand stairs,

holding his hands up in peace.

He directed them to the parlor,

where his family was still trapped.

The steel doors slid open slowly,

revealing the terrified guilty group.

Philip tried to fight an officer,

but was quickly pinned to the ground.

Handcuffs clicked loudly and sharply,

securing his wrists behind his back.

Celeste screamed in absolute panic,

kicking her legs in the air.

She was dragged out the door,

crying about her ruined public reputation.

Beatrice maintained her cold dignity,

holding her chin up very high.

She offered her wrists willingly,

glaring at Adrian with pure hatred.

She whispered a dark terrible curse,

promising he would regret this betrayal.

Adrian did not flinch at all,

staring right back into her eyes.

He handed the plastic evidence bag,

giving the syringe to the detective.

He handed over the black light,

explaining the invisible tracing dye.

The detective looked extremely impressed,

nodding at the clever flawless trap.

They processed the entire crime scene,

taking photos of the glowing residue.

The evidence was absolutely overwhelming,

leaving no room for any doubt.

Mara came down the stairs slowly,

carrying a sleeping Leo in her arms.

The boy was safe and sound,

unaware of the chaotic loud scene.

The detective took Mara's formal statement,

clearing her name of any wrongdoing.

She told them about the labels,

and the milk on the breakfast tray.

Adrian watched his family being taken,

loaded into the waiting police cruisers.

The neighborhood was watching the spectacle,

gossiping about the wealthy fallen family.

He felt a bitter sad victory,

knowing he had lost his relatives.

But he had saved his only son,

which was the only thing that mattered.

He closed the heavy wooden door,

shutting out the flashing police lights.

The house was finally quiet again,

and the toxic poison was gone.
