The Mask of Deception / Chapter 8 / 10 2

Chapter 8

Life returned to a peaceful normal,

without the constant hovering shadow of greed.

Leo grew stronger every single day,

running through the massive green garden.

Mara chased him with a smile,

carrying his toys and his water bottle.

Adrian watched them from the patio,

typing on his silver laptop computer.

He had started a new tech company,

focusing on advanced medical security systems.

His personal tragedy had inspired the design,

creating smart locks for pediatric medicine cabinets.

The business was booming incredibly fast,

saving lives in hospitals across the country.

He poured a glass of iced tea,

enjoying the quiet sounds of the birds.

The mansion felt like a real home now,

filled with laughter and bright warm sunlight.

He had redecorated the entire first floor,

removing his mother's cold antique expensive furniture.

He replaced it with comfortable modern couches,

and bright colorful rugs for Leo to play on.

A delivery truck pulled up the driveway,

bringing a large wooden heavy crate.

Adrian signed the digital electronic pad,

thanking the driver with a generous tip.

He opened the crate with a crowbar,

revealing a beautiful custom grand piano.

It was a gift for little Leo,

who had shown a talent for music.

Mara helped him move the heavy bench,

setting up the sheet music on the stand.

Leo ran inside with muddy shoes,

gasping when he saw the shiny instrument.

He pressed a single white key,

smiling at the pure clear ringing sound.

Adrian sat beside him on the bench,

teaching him a simple joyful little melody.

The house was filled with sweet music,

replacing the old whispers of dark betrayal.

He looked at the framed photograph,

sitting on the large stone fireplace mantle.

It was a picture of his late wife,

smiling brightly on their happy wedding day.

He knew she was watching over them,

proud of the man he had finally become.

He had protected their precious only son,

using his mind as a deadly sharp weapon.
