Chapter 23 - THE WEDDING VIDEO

The trial began eleven months after Elena’s birth.
My daughter was almost one.
She did not attend.
No reason.
The jury saw ballroom video.
Music.
Guests.
Dorothy in white.
Me walking into service corridor.
Then partial camera:
Dorothy behind me.
My body entering the changing room abruptly.
Door closes.
Lock.
No camera inside.
Audio:
“Your baby can wait. This wedding comes first.”
Then pounding.
Dad moving through ballroom.
Door forced.
Me emerging supported.
“Dad… my water broke.”
Dorothy blocking.
“She is not ruining this wedding.”
Champagne cart.
Fall.
Exit.
Everything.
No heroic edit.
No hidden cut around Dad’s force.
Then medical records.
PPROM confirmed.
Late-preterm birth the next day.
The obstetrician testified:
Could the physical incident have contributed to membrane rupture?
Possible.
Could she state it did to reasonable medical certainty?
No.
Could PPROM have occurred spontaneously?
Yes.
Did Isabella require immediate obstetric evaluation once membranes ruptured at thirty-four weeks?
Yes.
Would delaying evaluation for a wedding ceremony be medically appropriate?
No.
