Chapter 20 - THE PLEA CELESTE REFUSES

Prosecutors offered Celeste a plea covering two events.
Current wedding:
Intentional assault of Grace.
Prior engagement dinner:
Reckless child endangerment based on knowingly overriding a documented severe-allergy food restriction, leading to exposure requiring epinephrine and emergency care.
Not attempted murder.
Not intentional poisoning.
No evidence she wanted Grace to react.
The factual statement said:
Celeste knew Grace had a severe cashew/pistachio allergy, had been informed that the regular mousse contained pistachio paste, and later caused the regular mousse to be substituted onto Grace’s allergy-designated plate for presentation reasons.
Celeste refused:
caused.
She wanted:
requested visual matching that was improperly executed by staff.
Mark’s testimony contradicted.
Security video.
Email.
Ticket.
Still, she said:
“I never told him to give her nuts.”
Her attorney said:
“You told him to switch the cup.”
“I thought they had made a safe matching cup.”
“After being told the regular mousse was unsafe?”
“I thought the manager had fixed it.”
No message supported that belief.
Could a jury still believe her?
Possible.
That is why trials exist.
Then the current assault.
She offered to plead to simple assault if allergy count disappeared.
