Chapter 22 - THE NOTE IN BIRDIE

Dana’s handwritten note became almost as important as the USB because it gave investigators a way to verify without trusting her files blindly.

COMPARE THE BADGE NUMBER TO THE HAWTHORNE GRAND ACCESS LOGS AFTER MY TERMINATION DATE.

They did.

Independent access-control vendor confirmed raw system logs preserved in server backups.

The badge number appeared.

Dana’s employment records confirmed she was no longer authorized.

Travel records and witnesses placed her in Maine during two of the entries.

So she could not have used the physical credential herself.

Jonah’s administrator logs showed reactivation.

Celeste’s messages showed requests for “discreet event credentials.”

Then camera footage tied her to locations.

Evidence cross-checked.

Not one USB proving everything.

That mattered.

The unknown card became a key because it connected digital records to a real credential identity.
