Chapter 6 - THE LABELS INSIDE THE BOXES

Each shoe box had an archival label.
EHV-01.
EHV-02.
Eleanor Hart Virelli.
The trust’s conservator created the system.
Then I noticed several boxes on Camilla’s rack had new cream labels covering the archival codes.
CDV-17.
CDV-21.
Camilla Drayton Virelli.
A name she did not legally have yet.
I peeled one label back.
EHV-33.
Trust property.
Leonard Shaw joined me.
My family counsel.
Consigliere if you asked anyone over seventy.
Attorney if you asked him.
He looked at the labels.
“Do not peel anything else.”
“Why?”
“Because I enjoy evidence that still looks like it did before angry clients touch it.”
Fair.
Commonwealth sent a trust officer and independent conservator.
Inventory:
Twenty-one trust-owned pairs were at Villa Virelli.
Not eighteen.
Three had apparently been released from storage based on emailed instructions purportedly from me.
I had not sent them.
The email came from my household office account.
Did someone hack me?
No.
My executive assistant had received a forwarding request from Camilla’s event coordinator.
Camilla said I approved the museum review.
The assistant believed her.
No forged signature.
No cybercrime.
Bad internal controls and family assumptions.
