Chapter 24 - BEATRICE’S LAST DINNER AS HOST

At seventy-eight, Beatrice asked to host one final formal dinner.

Not as House Chair.

As Beatrice.

She paid from her own funds.

Used professional staff.

Submitted event requirements like everyone else.

The form asked:

SPECIAL REQUESTS?

She wrote:

No younger family member is required to serve.

Rosalie saw it.

Cried quietly.

At dinner, Beatrice stood.

No grand apology speech.

Just:

“I spent years confusing service freely given with service I had the right to demand.”

Then:

“I was wrong.”

She sat.

Enough.
