Chapter 1 - The Slap Beside the DiamondsNathan slapped Emma beside the diamond counter.

“You followed me here?”

She stumbled against the glass but stayed upright.

Celeste stood across from her in an emerald gown, a diamond ring glittering on her hand.

Emma slowly removed her own wedding ring and placed it on the counter.

“No. I came to see what you’d do when you thought I was powerless.”

Nathan stepped closer.

“By Friday, your shares are mine.”

Emma lifted her phone and called Marcus Chen.

His voice came through speaker.

“The transfer is blocked. We found the forged signature.”

Nathan went pale.

Emma took a sealed legal envelope from her handbag.

Then Marcus added something that made her forget the entire store.

“Emma… we also found your father. He’s alive.”

She froze.

For fourteen years, Emma had believed her father, Thomas Hale, died while living overseas.

Nathan looked terrified for a different reason.

Emma saw it.

That was the detail she remembered afterward.

Not Celeste’s ring.

Not the slap.

Nathan had reacted to Thomas’s name as though the dead man had just walked through the door.
