Chapter 2 - The Shares Nathan Expected to ControlEmma’s shares came from Hale Precision, the manufacturing company founded by her father.

She inherited voting stock after Thomas was declared legally dead following years without verified contact.
Emma never ran the company.
Nathan did.
After their marriage, he gradually became the public face of the business while Emma focused on charitable projects and board oversight.
Three months earlier, Nathan presented documents that would transfer a large block of Emma’s voting rights into a family investment vehicle.
He described it as estate planning.
Emma nearly signed.
Marcus reviewed the papers first.
One signature was already there.
Emma’s.
Except she had never written it.
The document appeared to have been executed weeks earlier.
Nathan claimed an administrative mistake.
Marcus did not believe him.
An independent handwriting examination supported Emma’s denial, and corporate counsel immediately suspended the proposed transfer.
Nathan did not yet know the review had reached that point when he walked into the jewelry store with Celeste.
Emma had gone there because Marcus discovered Nathan scheduled a private appointment under a different name.
She expected proof of an affair.

She did not expect violence.
And she certainly did not expect the father whose disappearance created her ownership position to suddenly be alive.
