Chapter 25 - THE DEEDS

When Grace turned eighteen, Dad showed her the original Bellemont deed records.

Not because she would inherit the property automatically.

Because she had grown up hearing the family joke:

Check the deeds.

She expected something dramatic.

Paper.

Legal descriptions.

Parcel numbers.

Recording stamps.

“That’s it?”

“Yes,” Dad said.

“So boring.”

“Most ownership is.”

She looked at me.

“Dad really went pale over this?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because he was arguing from a story and Grandpa had paper.”

Dad corrected:

“Electronic records too.”

Grace rolled her eyes.
