Chapter 6 - THREE LITTLE INCIDENTS

The fitting was not the first complaint.

It was the first serious injury.

Wedding planner Natalie Cross had written three internal incident notes.

Not police reports.

Vendor-management records.

Incident One:

Vanessa grabbed a florist’s wrist after the wrong peonies arrived.

No injury.

Florist withdrew from direct bride contact.

Incident Two:

Vanessa threw a table-number frame against a wall near the venue coordinator.

No contact.

Incident Three:

Vanessa shoved a garment rack hard enough that it rolled into a junior stylist’s leg.

Bruise.

No medical care.

Each time Owen intervened.

Apologized.

Paid for damage where appropriate.

Moved Vanessa out of the room.

He became the family fixer.

Daniel learned about the broken frame.

Not the wrist grab.

Not the garment rack.

Why?

Owen told vendors:

“She’s under extraordinary wedding stress. Let me handle her.”

Some accepted.

Some thought:

Rich family.

Not worth conflict.

No giant bribes.

No threats.

No NDAs at gunpoint.

Just social pressure and money used for legitimate invoices after ugly behavior.

Then Cecily’s broken wrist changed scale.

Owen should have stopped fixing.

He fixed harder.
